Slow burn....

Symptoms: Dvd drive activity light blinks when burning. Burns data at 1.6 average (was 4). Any suggestions sane or not, will be greatly appreciated. Advanced Member Group: Members Posts: 20,478 Joined: 30-August 08 Member No.: 8,132,427	Your log is full of errors. One of them is with the media you're using. Have you changed the brand or to a new batch? Some factors that can affect the process include low free HD space or heavily fragmented HD free space, assuming nothing else on your system has changed.

Newbie Group: Members Posts: 7 Joined: 6-August 10 Member No.: 8,013,452	TY, for responding. Media is of the same brand........70 gigs of free space and fragmentation at 3%. Have been to alot of forums and checked many possible issues. One I am considering is to uninstall the drive (NEC DVD_RW ND-3500AG) and reboot and hopefully windows will reinstall. Just noticed a clicking sound emiting from the drive when burning. You have mentioned many errors, is it possible for myself to work on with your kind assistance? One of the errors in the log that I didn't see right away last night is a power calibration error. This is a drive issue which typically can be fixed by going to the manufacturer's website and downloading/installing the latest driver. The drive could also be going bad or a power supply could be going bad. One way to check the drive is to run Nero Drive Speed on it. You can also check your disks by running Nero Disk Speed. I assume you have them in V7.

Gateway did not have a newer version. In the meantime I ordered a lens cleaner which should arrive by the 16th Aug. Will reply after cleaning drive. Thank you for your patience. Roy

According to this- http://support.necam.com/optical/downloads/flashfirmware/ the latest firmware is 2.1A and you can download it if you read and accept the installation instructions. You should probably read the instructions carefully.
