Yesterday I installed Nero Multimedia Suite 10 on my Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit OS.

Tried to copy my personal DVD -RW produced by a Kodak shop containing VIDEO_TS (*.VOB etc files) onto

another DVD -RW disc. The burn process failed.

It also failed when trying to copy the same files from the HD.

I was using the "Recode an entire DVD to DVD" section of the software for the first part. The Nero-Recode.log file said the "burn process failed at 4X".

Is this software compatible with 64 bit Win 7 OS? Am I missing some drivers? According to Nero this (64bit) is supposed to be a supported OS.

I am using 2 Samsung TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH_S223C DVD writers.

Any help would be appreciated.

In the attachments section it says "You are not permitted to upload this type of file" ? How do I upload then?

Upload failed. You are not permitted to upload this type of file

Hi EasyJoe,

strange that you couldn´t upload the file. In which format did you save it?

Anyway, I checked the file, and apparently this is a burning problem, but is not caused by Nero.

Try the following:

1) The firmware for your recorder TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S223C is apparently old. You have version SB01 and there is apparently a version SB04 available already.

Try to update the firmware. To do so, contact the recorder manufacturer. they will provide you with the correct update. I found this info here: http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Firmware/SingleModel.aspx?DriveId=1682

2) If this doesn´t help, try another brand of discs.

Does this solve the problem?

Regards,

To answer your question I saved it as NeroRecode.log format. It is a text document and would not upload.

Next I am trying your first suggestion and updating the firmware.

Now this is where I am having problems with Samsungs DVD writer firmware update "Tsdwin" program (Flash download for Windows).

It crashes (hangs) under Win 7 (64 bit) OS. The executable file I am running is SH-S223C_SB04.exe

Their ODD Live Firmware Update also fails with a message that says:

"Due to a system problem, it failed to operate a program by automatically connecting it.

Please download a firmware from a homepage (www.samsungodd.com)" . So back to the start again!

I suspect some problem with flash software not running properly with 64 bit system.

So, so-far no progress. :o

I don't know what system it's talking about but, since I assume you downloaded the file you're trying to execute, do you have some security software running that might be preventing the installation? What level do you have UAC set to?

Also, you might try burning at 2X instead of 4x since the log doesn't complain about drivers.

Hi wither,
Let me start again.
My two Samsung DVD writers (from Toshiba Samsung Storage Technology)
“ TSST corp CDDVDW SH-S223C” with firmware version SB01 will not burn DVD’s. (Using DVD –RW discs)

InfoHelp (Nero forum) suggested to upgrade to the latest Firmware SB04.

So I downloaded the appropriate file from cdrinfo.com

“ SH-S223C_SB04.exe “ which I ran under win7 (64) bit OS and this executable program in turn started up “Tsdnwin.exe” installation program which crashes (freezes). I had to use the Windows “Task Manager” to End the Task.

So I tried, ODD FW Liveupdate (full version) and it too fails with an error message :
“that due to a system problem it failed to operate a program by
automatically connecting to it.”

Next step was to run Tsdnwin.exe (Flash download for widows) from the Desktop.
This asks for F/W file (bin file) to open which the manufacturer’s website does not seem to provide.

How do I obtain the required files for this step to upgrade to SB04 version?
I am hoping that this procedure will not fail.

I don’t know what is going on, but it looks like a bug or compatibility problem in Samsung’s update system for win7 64bit OS.
Alternatively something might be corrupt with my Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit operating system.

I agree with you about the internet connection problem but you didn't answer my question concerning security (like Bit Torrent) nor did you say if you could burn at 2x. I always recommend updating drivers but the Nero log doesn't indicate a driver problem. That's why I'm asking about the other things.

Other things to check. Run the Nero Drive Speed and see if you get any errors. In addition, run the Nero Disk Speed with one of your disks and see if you get any errors. For Disk Speed, note the write speed range for the disks.

If you go to Vision, Make DVD, DVD-Video and import your files, can you burn them to DVD?

Can you burn a DVD using the Windows utilities?

To answer some of your questions.
I suppose, quote “system it’s taking about” is my win7 64 bitOS
I did download the file and ran it from my Desktop.

The security software running at the time was “AVG Internet Security V9.0”
and it seemed OK.
UAC was set at default level. (Notify me only when programs try to make changes…etc)
Also burning DVD at 2X was not available as an option.

Post#9 No Bit Torrent is installed.
“Nero Drive Speed” is not part of Nero Multimedia Suite 10.
So I downloaded a copy and it crashes with the following message:
“Unable to initialize WNASPI32.DLL”

Nero Disk Speed works OK. See attached file.
Your Question:
“If you go to Vision, Make DVD, DVD-Video and import your files, can you burn them to DVD?
No it fails.
Also cannot burn DVD’s using Windows utilities.
It burns only CD’s.

I wonder why they removed Drive Speed? I just don't get this kind of stuff. Burn Rights is in the V10 folder but not in the Toolbox and also has to be run manually.

I would completely disable AVG and give it another shot. Some AV programs with their accompanying security options are very aggressive even if you don't get an error message.

When you select the type of project you want to burn, the New Compilation window has a Burn tab. You should be able to select 2x in the write speed. This option is not available for a CD.

Well, the fact that you can only burn CD's with the Windows utilities and, I assume, Nero, is indicative of a driver problem or a physical drive problem. What you could try is going into Device Manager and, first of all, make sure no problems are shown for your drives and, second, rolling back the drivers to the Windows drivers and try burning with that. I assume you have the drivers that came with the drives somewhere so that you could reinstall them if desired.

One more thing. I noticed that your disks are manufactured by Rite... The various vendors like perhaps Sony or Memorex and others use Rite but many people have had problems with them. You could try a different batch or a different vendor but, the fact that disk speed works puts this one on the back burner.

Have you tried downloading the firmware file instead of trying to upgrade through the updater?

BTW- The latest official file on the Samsung site is 03.

I have to agree. The PMA error corroborates what I said about the driver or the drive being the problem. Nero isn't causing the problem.

Yes I have, but the frustrating part is when it the "SH-S223C_SB03.exe" file runs it starts up Tsdnwin.exe program which hangs the operating system (Win7 64 bit)
I then have to End Task it. It stops at the flashing "Caution Message" that comes up about not to turn the power off etc.

I think you should bring this up with Toshiba, Samsung or maybe cdrinfo. Strange that the only driver update for your drive that I could find at cdrinfo.com is the sB04, not
sB03 that you're trying to install. It's also strange that the only firmware at the Samsung.com website is for the F and Q versions of your drive. I wonder what's up with that?

Did you try running Firmware Update at this website- http://www.samsungodd.com/WebManual/DVD-Wr...C/en/index.html

I have tried both SH-S223C_SB03.exe from samguodd.com and SH-S223C_SB04.exe from cdrinfo.
Both give me the same problem and I have to "End Task" each run. Both hang when Tsndwin.exe is running and stops at the flashing "Caution" screen.
You mention bringing it up with Samsung.
It seems almost impossibe to contact them for a problem like this one, using their
http://samsung-odd.com/Eng/Firmware/liveupdate.asp webpage.
The Support section has
Trouble shooting: which is currently not displaying anything.
FAQ: Nothing here for my problem.
SERVICE Centre: Which is for mechanical ODD type problems, not so much software related.
Sent them an e-mail from here a few days ago but no response yet.

Make sure you disable your antivirus before running the file.

Have you tried extracting the files then running the exe?

Yes the AVG firewall is disabled when running the SH-S223C_S03.exe file. Same failure occurs.

Your question: Have you tried extracting the files then running the exe?
Do you mean have I downloaded Tsdnwin.exe and run it from my desktop? Yes I have.
Exactlty the same result.
You mention "extracting" files above, I am not sure which other file you might be referring to. There are no bin files given on the site.

Even ODD Firmware LiveUpdate fails with this error message
“that due to a system problem it failed to operate a program by
automatically connecting to it.”

I don't know what that means since it does not give any useful clue.

Disable all of AVG if there is more than a firewall.

If you right click on the .exe file and select "run as administrator" does that make any difference?
