I am using Wave Editor 3.10.1.0 on my new computer which has Vista 64.
I know you are supposed to go to Options>Device settings to change the input device, so that's not the problem. The problem is that on my old XP computer I could record any sound my computer was making on screen. I used this to make MP3's of client Skype calls. It worked really well, but now it does not record anything that is happening on the computer. It only wants to record from the microphone or the analog audio in settings. There is no option to record what is on screen - the "Stereo Mixer" option is gone. Help!! |

Hi thegripester,
The recording options in Nero WaveEditor and Nero SoundTrax are displayed differently in Windows XP and Windows Vista. In Windows XP the sound card is seen as one device. Therefore, selecting a device will allow you to access all input options in the recording console. In Windows Vista every input option is seen as a separate device. Therefore, the sound card input option must first be selected in "Device Settings". You get to this window by clicking the "Options" -> "Device Settings" entries in the menu bar. In this window, select the preferred "Input Device". After that, the "Master Volume" entry in the recording console represents the input device selected in the "Device Settings" window. Regards, Infohelp I know this... that is why I put in my OP that this was NOT the problem: "I know you are supposed to go to Options>Device settings to change the input device, so that's not the problem." The problem is that I do not get enough options. I get these options: MME: Microphone MME: Analog Audio In MME: (wave mapper) AND THAT'S ALL THE OPTIONS I GET. I do not have an option to pick anything from my sound card. none. I have a Realtek ATI HDMI Audio Card. ?????????????????????????????? |

Hi thegripester,
You should usually be able to select the options in the "Input Devices" drop-down list. If this option is not displayed then it might be deactivated by default. To activate it, proceed as follows: Open the Control Panel (in "Classic View" mode). Double-click the "Sound" icon. Click the "Recording" tab. Here you can see the currently activated devices. Right-click in the field to open the context menu. Select "Show Disabled Devices". Now the list should allow you to select the options that are missing in your case. Select the disabled option and right-click on it to select "Enable". Now open Nero WaveEditor or Nero SoundTrax and select the option as input device in "Options" -> "Device Settings". Does this help? Regards, Infohelp |

YAY!
That worked. I had no idea it hid disabled items. That's an amazingly annoying "feature" :) Thanks much. |
