feline1 asked a number of questions about the upcoming release of Nero 2014 in topic

new features in Nero 14?

Three references to Nero 2014 have appeared there:

Nero 12.5 owners, Older version owners, and here.

Each page has basically the same content: a rather vague list of features, a link to a version comparison chart, and a link to the system requirements. There is no mention of Release Notes.

Nothing I have seen addresses feline1's question about fixes to the bugs present in the current Nero 12.5 version. I maintain a list of those I have come across:

My list of Nero 12 Platinum problems.

So, there are actually at least two questions:

1. Will the version 12.5 bugs be fixed in a free update?

2. Will the version 12.5 bugs be fixed in the Nero 2014 release?

You can get v12 Platinum for $40 US and, if you buy it by tomorrow, you'll get Nero 2014 free.

As a current owner of Nero 12 Platinum I was offered Nero 2014 at a price considerably above $40.00. Is it true that it is less expensive to "upgrade" from version 9 Essentials?

I don't think that would work since you already have v12 Platinum. The problem is your v9 is tied to your e-mail address and that's what a person has to enter to buy the upgrade. On the other hand, nothing hurt by trying. How much are they asking for v14?

That is $54.99 if purchased by today. My question really is, "Where does it say that users upgrading from older versions at the $40.00 price will get Nero 2014 for free? I haven't seen anything like that.

Well, it's here and the upgrade price remains the same as yesterday for Nero 12 Platinum owners ($10.00 US extra for older versions). No Release Notes or System Requirements on the support page. A chat box popped up on one of the Nero pages I went to and I asked about the System Requirements, Release Notes, and bug fixes. I was sent a link to the System Requirements and told to be patient - the web pages haven't been updated yet - that's in process. Oh, and, "Have a nice day!"

The price above is for Nero 12 Platinum upgrades to Nero 2014 Platinum. Actual prices:

The offer to upgrade to v12 Platinum and get v14 free expired yesterday.

The point is that Nero 2014 has been released with no documentation about bug fixes. See the topic title!!

You asked in post 4.

Nero doesn't consider any problem to be a bug.

2. Will the version 12.5 bugs be fixed in the Nero 2014 release?

In general: They will still be free updates for nero 12.5.
For example, today many updates for nero 12.5 are released - e.h. all nero 12 (and also nero 11) users got a new control-center (with ability to change language), a new bd-player, the new mediahome (that replaces kwik) and so on.
E.g. "Nero 12 Kwik Media uses excessive resources when playing any video that is not in its library" should be fixed with this update.

I had a short look to your list:
a) Soundtrax and Waveeditor are not part of nero 12.5 or nero 2014 - so bugfixes for soundtraxes and waveeditor are totally independent from nero 12/nero 2014.
When updates for soundtrax or waveeditor are deployed, they will be available for all.
But: as soundtrax and waveeditor are free tools, don't expect to much here

b) Some of the bugs you are reported are not reproducible - for example: "Nero 12 Burning ROM won't copy a CD.": On all my systems the copy cd functions works. So, this must be somewhere depend on the system, on the writer, on other software or so one.
This kind of bugs are very hard to find - and even the question is, if this is a bug of nero.

Unfortunately, I don't have the time to comment all entries of you list - have you reported all this problems to the technical support?

I just have installed all available updates (approx. 190 MB). But the problems and shortcomings which I had, are not fixed:
- Correct alignment of 4:3 material in the 4:3 display area. Always still black bars are added on the sides. A problem which already exists since Nero 10 but not in the previous versions.
- deficiency in the static text effect/multiline. No automatic line feeds are performed when the text overflows the text area. You have manually to insert the line-feeds as before..

I believe that the most updates are made in context with preparing 2014. So I must assume, that these deficiencies are also not fixed in 2014.

Sorry, but on updates of KM I am not interested, I don't need it.

Thanks for the post. I don't have time this morning, but get to it later. Others have reported the copy problems in the forum - I think all have Matashita? drives.

See post #12.

First, the excessive use of resources issue was raised on May 14th. On July 17th, JennyWang posted that it will be fixed in the next update of KM. That happened today, almost 4 months to the day after the first report. As for "Nero 12.5 updates", everything that was foisted upon us today had to do with Nero 2014, not Nero 12.5. None of the Nero Video, Nero Recode, Nero BurningROM, etc. bugs have been addressed! Moreover, as you can see in today's postings, the bugs are alive and well in Nero 2104.

Nero CoverDesigner was updated today. That would be one of those things that are available under Nero 2014, so I wouldn't include it in a "12.5 update".

As I said earlier, this problem was noted by several posters. What I didn't mention was the fact that other vendor's programs have absolutely no problem.

Reporting problems to Tech Support doesn't seem to be very effective as numerous forum posters have noted. I'll cite one recent example. On Sept. 9th, I sent a report about a problem with Stylize Video Effects in Nero Video:

"Review of topic NV12 hangs, NV11 crashes, using Stylize Effects at
http://forum.my.nero.com/index.php?showtopic=17596&hl=", with lots more data. Two days later, surprisingly, I received a response informing me that the problem could not be reproduced, etc. And, that it might be fixed in Nero 2014!!!! That same day, I sent a reply including the following:

1. Using Nero 12 on my Windows 8 Pro system, the procedure hangs NV12
(YouTube video).:
2. Using Nero 12 on my Windows 8 Pro system and switching from NTSC to PAL,
the procedure results in a "burn failure" (post #12).
3. Using Nero 11 on my Windows XP Professional, SP3 system, the procedure
crashed NV11 (YouTube video).
4. The procedure caused hg-dude's Nero 12 to hang (post #4).
5. The procedure caused hg-dude's Nero 10 to hang (post #6).
6. The procedure caused wither's Nero 11 to hang (post #11).
7. The procedure caused wither's Nero 12 to hang (post #11).
I've heard nothing since. I'm not sure what will happen with this one, but, if the past is any indicator, that will be the end of it. So, what's the point?

WaveEditor, CoverDesigner and SoundTrax are all installed in v14. Version numbers start with 15.
