I discovered a mandatory update for KwikMedia today in ControlCenter. I searched Nero.com for release notes. I found none. I clicked on update. It downloaded and installed but the update list still contains the KwikMedia update. Now KwikMedia is useless - it "needs to close" if I try starting it. Re-doing the installation doesn't help - it does exactly the same thing. Re-booting doesn't help.
I have Nero 11 running on Windows XP Pro, SP3. |

Hi ArmandLiberi,
This problem can have several causes. It needs more information for analysis. Please send an email directly to techsupport@nero.com. Best regards, FarmerSmurfFFA |

Even though I'm on vacation in Hagerstown Maryland, I'm willing to help my friend in the "burgh" at 11 PM.
I just installed it in Win 7 and have no problems. It could be the download got corrupted. If you run the check for updates again, does it come back with none? If so, I suggest doing a Repair of .net framework 4 from the Control Panel, Programs.... |

Thanks for the suggestion. The first time that I tried, it downloaded without any error and then installed. When finished (?), the ControlConsole display was just as it was after I checked for updates. It listed a mandatory update for KwikMedia. I tried again and got the same result. I rebooted and got the same result. In any case, the download was done three times. Aren't they validated prior to being executed? I won't be trying anything tonight. Maybe tomorrow. I have to mull over hg-dude's comments for a while! Edit: I lied! I tried again and made screenshots that I'll be removing one day soon because I am running out of space. Screenshot 1 after "check for Updates". Screenshot 2 while downloading. Screenshot 3 while installing. Screenshot 4 after the installation finished (?). Note that no dialog appeared indicating that the install had succeeded or failed. Note: Screenshots removed on 20120712. This post has been edited by ArmandLiberi: Jul 12 2012, 11:52 PM |

I have several outstanding issues with tech support. They do not have them fixed. They do not respond when I ask for the status. Etc. A story I'm sure you've read numerous times since your arrival on the forum. If you want to be helpful to me, please check with tech support for me and ask for the status of my already submitted issues. As I understand the situation, all of my issues will be piled up in a single unsorted queue under my email address, making it easy to find them all at one time! Note also, it would be quite all right if they respond publicly in this thread or any of the others I have posted. Thanks for your concern, and I'll be waiting. |

I received no indication of whether or not the installation was successful. I ran the check for updates after the installation and none were found. That's why I asked you the question. Apparently, the download was either corrupted or something prevented the installation from succeeding. Do you have anti-virus turned off?

I this case you have to contact tech support - as this kind of problems are system specif, a deeper analysis is required - this cannot be done here in the forum. |

Perhaps you would enjoy my video, "Is XP Obsolete?" available here: http://ArmandLiberi.my.nero.com/blog/7496300 Seriously, if you do find a solution to this issue, please post it. jens-f: I'm not sure what you mean by "system-specific." It has been my experience that this is the type of language used by tech support to justify ignoring issues that are clearly software bugs. I have a long list. wither: Did you actually suggest that I disable my anti-virus? :) That definitely will not be happening! |

jens-f: I'm not sure what you mean by "system-specific." That they not appear on other systems and therefore are not easily reproduceable. E.g. the crash mentioned above does not happen all my systems. I a bug appears on every systems, it is much more easy to fix as a bug that only appears on special system (or e.g. with special data). But, if a bug only appears on special system, it is often very hard to find out the reason |

As I am sure you have noticed, this issue has appeared on zygziem's system; another Windows XP Pro, SP3 system, that is. Do you have such a system? Also, my Nero suite is installed on a second hard drive, not C:. Maybe that has something to do with it. I agree with you, "a bug appears on every systems, it is much more easy to fix as a bug that only appears on special system (or e.g. with special data)." But, difficult to find does not mean impossible to find. It takes effort (and willingness). In one case involving Recode, I submitted a supposed non-reproducible issue to tech support involving Recode in January. After several months of denial and delay, I received "Our developers found an issue in the FLV transcoding adn already found the reason for this issue. I hope we can offer a solution as soon as possible fo thie problem." That was on March 26th. It is now July! This is a time period that might be acceptable for the development of a new feature or an improved algorithm, not to "fix a bug." As I said, I have a list of these things. |

Disabling your anti-virus for 10-15 minutes isn't going to result in a flood of viruses. I offer suggestions which could potentially fix a problem but, if a person doesn't want to try them then my hands are tied. In another thread this morning, you indicated that the latest update to KM solved a previous problem. How does that fit in with your inability to install the update?
Zyqziem- I'm confused about your situation. You said that "after" the update, you couldn't run KM. Does this mean that you are able to install the update and the NCC shows no further updates are available? |

1) Turned off the antivirus program (NOD 32).
2) Start Nero Control Center. 3) Update Nero Kwik Media. 4) Problem still not solved. NCC continues to show available update Nero Kwik Media. |

Also, my Nero suite is installed on a second hard drive, not C:. Maybe that has something to do with it. One of my pc also has xp. And another has nero installed on drive d. On both PCs Kwik is working - so this is not they key point. I agree with you, "a bug appears on every systems, it is much more easy to fix as a bug that only appears on special system (or e.g. with special data)." But, difficult to find does not mean impossible to find. It takes effort (and willingness). Yes, of cause - as said: This is best done via tech support. One reason: The Data from GetSupportFiles are needed in this case - but the support.cab should NEVER be posted in the form as it contains personal data. So, this must be analyzed step-by-step In one case involving Recode, I submitted a supposed non-reproducible issue to tech support involving Recode in January. I am sorry - but be realistic: Each consumer device has dozen of bugs. Each smartphone, smart-tv and each software has bugs. Also windows has a long list of known bugs. So, always, it must be counted how important is the bug and how many persons are effected. As you won't be willing to pay 10000 $ for Nero (or pay a monthly "support-fee") also the economic aspects must be counted. Each programmer must be paid - as there is only a limited amount of money, nero cannot hire hundred of additional programmers to fix each small bug. Of cause I personally (as programmers) would prefer to fix all bugs - but this is simply not realistic. |

As I implied in my response to hg-dude in this forum under "Release Notes," the only software that appears to be getting updated is KM! "Of cause I personally (as programmers) would prefer to fix all bugs - but this is simply not realistic." I am going to make the rash assumption here that you are now or have been a programmer. If that's true, I would hope that you agree that there are some problems that are shouting out to be taken care of, such as the "Nero Video 11 renders at the wrong aspect ratio" post from the middle of May. I have a list! Back to the issue at hand! Do you have the entire Nero 11 suite installed on your XP system? Is it XP Professional? Is KwikMedia installed on C: or another drive? |

Try this-
Run msconfig.exe. In the Services tab, checkmark the box that says "hide all Microsoft....". Checkmark the box that disables all services. In the Startup tab, checkmark the box that says "disable all...". Reboot. Try the installation of KM. Whether it works or not, immediately run msconfig.exe and uncheck the all the boxes you previously checkmarked and reboot. |

"Disabling your anti-virus for 10-15 minutes isn't going to result in a flood of viruses. " I really don't know how to repsond to this! I will offer that it may be more dangerous for my system to install a Nero program than it would be to disable ..., but I really don't think so. "I offer suggestions which could potentially fix a problem but, if a person doesn't want to try them then my hands are tied." For the most part, I do try your suggestions. But, I will not be disabling my anti-virus unless I am disconnected from the internet. I'm sorry, but I consider that to be an "unreasonable" request. As I have mentioned before, I have never had to do that for any Windows installation and I have done many of them over a very long time. It seems that you have related the same experience. "In another thread this morning, you indicated that the latest update to KM solved a previous problem. How does that fit in with your inability to install the update?" I think you are referring to my comments to hg-dude. I was merely explaining to him why I continue to be interested in KM. |
