As far as I am concerned, Nero already has all of the information they need to fix the "missing menubar" problem. Note that lila-asta is now on the case! Hopefully, she (?) will have some luck in getting SoundTrax to fail. In any case, she sounds like a person that will prod tech support on her own, without me and without smurfs. BTW, if I can't count on the smurfs, that's a matter for Nero management to look into IMHO. After all, they are paying the smurfs, not me. "Missing menubar" is in quotes above because we now know (?) that its disappearance is a side effect of whatever else is going on. The initial invalid argument error is from SoundTrax. The only reasonable thing to do at this point is for someone with the source code for SoundTrax to look into the reasons for that error dialog appears and then follow-up with a little of that "analysis" they like to talk about. (Perhaps starting with the fix to topic "Nero 11 Wave Editor Menu Bar Disappeared - cannot reset"). Breaking News, 20120526: Since I added a question mark after "know" above, I played in SoundTrax a little. 1. First, I paid closer attention while re-establishing the menubar. It re-appears as soon as I select the Menu tab on the Customize dialog. 2. If I get the menu back, restart SoundTrax, insert a single podcast, and then click on the close "X", BOOM. 3. If I don't bother re-establishing the menu, I seem to be able to load podcasts, slide them around, cut, etc. without BOOM. 4. If I start SoundTrax in the no menu state, immediately bring up the "Insert Audio File" dialog using the toolbar, cancel the insertion and then try to get the menu back, BOOM. 5. For the ultimate demo, go to my SkyDrive and download the three files in the ForSoundTrax folder under Public: https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=4C028EF5CE7A...C028EF5CE7A1E35 Follow the instructions in the Readme.txt file. Slideshow sideshow: The first shots in the slide show were taken from the Duquesne Incline. We have eaten at the Cliffside a few times - rush, rush! [correction: it has been pointed out to me by someone I live with that I have never been in the Cliffside - bad review is the property of the Georgetown Inn] We did Christophers twice I think - good food, nice view. We have never gone to the Monterey Seafood whatever, but I've heard it's good. I only ate once at the Lemont - they treated us like dirt and the food was lousy. (We were there on half-price day - same). We also went to the Tin Angel once. To me, that one was the best overall deal - more costly than Cliffside [again] but more relaxing/better food. I'm on vacation so I won't promise I'll look at your files anytime soon.
I still think you should let tech support know. The photos that I attributed to the Monongahela Incline looked like they are from two far east to be from the Duquesne Incline. I don't understand your comment about the Georgetown Inn. If you're talking about the one in Pleasant Hills, I was friends with part of the family that own it. |

My last edit included directions to use my rather large podcasts stored on SkyDrive. If you have time someday, you might download those. No hurry (obviously!). Slideshow sideshow: The Georgetown Inn is just beyond the Duquesne Incline heading west. If the pictures you were referring to were of the Point, they were taken at the Duquesne Incline. I will look again. Enjoy your vacation. |

I guess you remember that lila-asti might not be what she/he purports. I know she/he said they were responding in private. I don't know how hg-dude knows that person is not an Nero employee.
Well, it's fixing to rain here all day today and tomorrow so outdoor activities are pretty much out. Looks like I have to punt. I downloaded your files and performed the procedure you provided. When I clicked to close SoundTrax, it asked me if I wanted to save the project. So it's behaving properly. |

Thanks for trying the SkyDrive files. Nothing settled there, I guess. Another unsettled issue for some, but not me, is whether or not lila-asta is a Nero employee. And, like you, I don't know how hg-dude knows [?] that person is not an Nero employee. I'm not sure what all of the rules are for these forums, but I would think that mis-representing oneself as an employee of Nero would not be tolerated for long. As you may know from the postings, I made a slideshow for hg-dude about the Phipps since he was asking where the Aquatic Gardens are located. It answers that question and poses another. If it is still raining there, you may want to take a stab at answering. I think it's about 4 minutes long: http://ArmandLiberi.my.nero.com/blog/7508455 Has vacation started yet? |

You needn't find out about lila-asta for me. As I said , "issue for some, but not me, is whether or not lila-asta is a Nero employee." The question I was referring to was asked at the end of the sildeshow, "Nero Employee?" Is she or isn't she? :-) |

On May 26, you wrote, "I don't know if the invalid argument is caused by .net framework or the C++ 2008 redistributable. You can try a repair of the .net framework and a uninstall/reinstall of the redistributable." I'm not sure why you suspect the Windows components. You may have the cart before the horse here. I've hacked up a Windows sample to produce the attachments. The sample code demonstrates how to use your own "invalid argument" handler. I tried to open a file using an invalid argument, an integer 0, for the file name. This resulted in an invalid argument error within the Windows code trying to open the file. As a result, Windows called my handler routine which presented the "An invalid agrgument was encountered" dialog. See 20120528_1_ForcedErrors.jpg. When the user clicks OK in the error dialog, the program aborts. See 20120528_2_ForcedErrors.jpg. The event log entry is shown in 20120528_2_ForcedErrors.jpg. Believe me when I say, these errors were not caused by any Windows software. I wrote the code that caused them! I believe the same is true for the SoundTrax errors I'm experiencing - someone, not employed by Microsoft, wrote the code that caused them. One last point: the sample code that I used is intended to show how to install the "invalid argument" handler. It is not intended to be a model for how to handle errors in a commercially available program. For that, a developer probably would want to indicate a more specific description of exactly what went wrong and then exit the program in a more orderly manner - not just abort out of it. But then, some developers may not want to bother. |

Armand - I tried again to reproduce the error, first with my own files (some random podcasts), then with the files you provided on SkyDrive - and SoundTrax still didn't crash :-( (Maybe I shouldn't be sad, it's probably a good thing it doesn't crash on every machine it is used on ;-))
The official way to report a problem is still to send Tech Support a description of the problem along with whatever file(s) they ask for. I'm trying to help, but I'm neither in Tech Support, nor am I a developer or with QA - so as long as I can't provide steps that lead to a certain behavior in an application every time you follow them, I will most likely be reluctant to report the issue officially, sorry. If the application asks you to send an error report after it has crashed, you should definitely do that - these "reports" will add up AFAIK, and the higher the number of incidents, the higher the probability someone will look into the issue (no guarantee on that though). |

lila-asta:
Thank you for trying again. I have left you a note in the NV forum in the topic "Single Picture Fails to Encode", http://forum.my.nero.com/index.php?showtopic=11729&hl if you have 5 minutes. There, I address your comment, "the higher the number of incidents, the higher the probability someone will look into the issue (no guarantee on that though)." and similar comments from forum members, tech support, and customer service. Thanks again and I hope you have managed to convince the others that you are, indeed, the real deal Nero employee! |

BILLYBR:
Hello, If I do the following my menubar (along the top) disappears: 1. Start SoundTrax 2. Cancel from the first screen with all of the project options 3. Insert an audio file using the insert menu option for doing that. 4. Exit SoundTrax immediately upon completion of the loading by clicking the red X in the upper corner. 5. Either SoundTrax will ask if you want to save, etc., or an error dialog will appear saying "An invalid argument was encountered." If the error occurs, the menubar that you used to insert the file will disappear. The menubar can be restored as explained by wither above. That's it. Thanks for remembering. I created several files in SoundTrax as part of tests in another topic and found a new way to crash SoundTrax. It happened when I tried to close SoundTrax after exporting a file. Surprisingly, this one did not remove my menubar! Here is the event log:

Looks like either Windows or SoundTrax is trying to either clear User32.dll as part of closing SoundTrax or is trying to create a dialogue. Can you do this repeatedly? I think that tech support will be the only ones to help you.

Here is a quote from an email I received from tech support on February 29, 2012 (red added for emphasis): "The problem in Nero SoundTrax is currently under investigation. We are working at full speed on a solution to this problem and will implement it in a future update. Sadly we have no means of offering a patch or a workaround to solve the problem in the meantime. We will inform you per e-mail as soon as the update is available." Here's one from March 26, 2012: "The issue is still under investigation. Unfortunately I have not received any feedback yet." On May 10, 2012, I wrote: It has been nearly three months since I first reported that the menus of my SoundTrax program are missing and I still have not received an update to SoundTrax. On May 18, 2012, I recieved this from customer service: " ... There are several problems with Nero SoundTrax, Nero Video, Nero Recode and KwikMedia. On May 18, 2012, I received thsi from customer service: "In this case, I can offer you a refund for Nero 11. May you please send me your order- or customer number so I can organize a refund for you? Of course we want to provide a quick solution to this situation and win you back as a satisfied Nero customer." I declined that offer as I did the previous offers and am awaiting fixes for the bugs I have taken the time to report.I'm unsure how I would benefit from any additional submissions to tech support. It will soon be 6 months since I reported my menubar problem (February 14, 2012). I have yet to be asked a question, given a test to run, etc. So, I repeat my plea: Do you know of any way that I can get the issues that I have reported addressed? Incidentally, here's a line from the .CAB AppEvent.txt file from my initial submission: ARMAND_DELL soundtrax.exe 5.0.6.100 user32.dll 5.1.2600.5512 And, yes, I can get these type of events on demand with SoundTrax. The version of SoundTrax supplied as a free add-on to Nero 12 does have a menubar on my system, and furthermore, it doesn't disappear as described in my previous posts about the Nero 11 SoundTrax. :)
