I was attempting to create a custom template using a custom stock and I inadvertantly brought up cover designer 10 instead of 11. I exited 10 and brought 11 back up and now every time I start CoverDesigner 11 the program crashes.

application error log follows

Faulting application name: CoverDes.exe, version: 6.0.13.100, time stamp: 0x4f27b352
Faulting module name: KERNELBASE.dll, version: 6.1.7601.17651, time stamp: 0x4e211319
    Exception code: 0xe06d7363
    Fault offset: 0x0000b9bc
    Faulting process id: 0x13a0
    Faulting application start time: 0x01cd32b03a64f986
    Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Nero\Nero 11\Nero CoverDesigner\CoverDes.exe
    Faulting module path: C:\Windows\syswow64\KERNELBASE.dll
    Report Id: 78d7169d-9ea3-11e1-b3d8-001676d66cd1

I was unable to do a repair of nero 11 as, unaccountably, the installation log files are all missing. Same for nero 10 and nero 9 - I am unable to uninstall or repair any of them. I deleted all files in Nero 9 and Nero 10 directories but I am sure the registry containes a lot of entries. I thought these old versions would have been deleted after I upgraded to the new versions. Is there a cleanup program for nero that removes old registry entries?

I cant think of anything else to do except to reinstall nero 11 or maybe just the cover designer

Open Task Manger and check to see if CD 10 is still running in applications. This problem should be fixable by just rebooting.

You might also try doing a system restore to fix potential registry problems.

Do you have v9, v10 and v11 installed? You can use the general clean tool to remove v9 although many entries will remain in the registry and on your hard drive. To do a pretty good job of removing v10 or 11, you could use Revo. This method should be used for the initial uninstall of software, instead of running the normal uninstall.

Rebooting did not help. However I did make some progress. I recall you posted a long time ago that 10 can be uninstalled thru the multimedia suite entry. That worked - all the Nero 10 thru that suite entry, all of 10's programs uninstalled. It is strange that each of those dozen or more programs are listed but cannot be uninstalled or repaired individually. Anyway, after running that general clean, rebooting, and uninstalling all the Nero 10, I can now run the repair for Nero 11.

It is not obvious how to repair just the Cover Designer. That program still generates an error.

AFAICT there is no way to do a repair of just the cover designer as show below.

Clearly there is some type of bug in the cover designer. Bringing up version 10, exiting, then bringing up version 11 should not cause it to crash.

[EDIT]

I was able to uninstall the Cover Designer, but it could not be re-installed: "The wizard was interrupted before Nero 11 could be completely installed". I tried this 3 times, in each case I enabled the cover designer and all sub components to be installed on the local drive and in each case the above wizard error occured followed by "Fatal error". I then brought up the control program and it determined that I was licensed for the Cover Designer which it then downloaded. Unfortunately, it is downloading the entire 260mb package, not just the part I am missing. Hopefully the it will get reinstalled and running again.

I have v10 and v11 installed on this machine. I opened CD from StartSmart (v10) selected a design and closed. I then opened CD from the Welcome Application (v11) and did the same thing. No problem.

I think I'll continue to try to help you in your other thread if you need it.

[attachment=5078:vs_error.png]I have made some progress. I can run the Cover Designer if I log out and log back in using a new profile. There is something in my user profile that is crashing the cover designer when it starts up. m$oft's DebugDiag shows an unhandled C++ format exception in CoverDes so the designer is probably reading some faulty startup string and crashing. I had deleted everything in local\temp before re-installing thinking that would clear things out. It didnt. I think Nero's AppData and the registry will have to be looked at. I do not want to switch username just to be able to run that cover designer. The cover designer should have trapped the format error and that is a deficiency.

FWIW, I attached the crash report from DebugDiag.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!SOLVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used regedit to remove the paper stock that I had been working on. It was crashing CoverDesigner. To verify this I added it back in using the regedit and sure enough, CoverDesigner 11 crashed immediately.

If anyone wants to muck with this then add the following to your registry and try to bring up the cover designer.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Nero\Nero 11\Nero CoverDesigner\PaperStocks]
"White12"=hex:5d,91,56,00,01,00,07,00,00,00,f8,ff,ff,ff,57,68,69,74,65,31,32,\
00,00,00,00,00,70,b7,40,00,00,00,00,00,88,a3,40,01,01,00,00,00,01,00,00,00,\
7d,73,0a,03,65,00,10,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,70,b7,40,00,00,00,00,00,c0,a2,\
40,00,00,00,00,00,c0,82,40,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00

The above was created with CoverDesigner as I was attempting to make a template for those 12 envelope 24 disk BluRay type cases that are sold on amazon. The size was 300mm x 125mm and landscape A4 paper. That size seems to be a big problem for the CoverDesigner.

I was just getting ready to ask you to reinstall the c++ redistributables until I read your last post.

Did you let tech support know?

Was this a custom stock that you were creating? You can create your own in Cover Designer.
