I'm having a consistent problem when burning audio CDs from FLAC files using Nero 10. When I do this, there will be gaps of silence in the 2nd track (always the 2nd track) on the disc. If I burn from .wav files, the problem does not exist.
I'm using Nero Burning ROM. It never produces an error, but the same problem occurs every time when burning from FLAC files.. When I used to use Nero 6, I never had this problem. Once I upgraded to Nero 10, it happens every time. Anyone know of a fix for this? Thanks, SteveMTNO |

If you're using Vista or Win 7- look in this path- C:\Users\user name\ppData\Roaming\Nero\Nero 10\Nero Burning ROM for the Nerohistory.log file. Change the name to nerohistory.log.txt. Use the Browse and upload and post it here.

I don't see any differences in the log with regards to the burned format. I do see an issue with the CDs, unless I'm mistaken. Not sure why it would affect one and not the other.
If you open NeroDiskSpeed and run the Create Disc test with one of your CDs, do you get any errors? Also, is the gap occuring within track 2 or between track 1 and 2? I noticed this album is for sale on Blue Note which would tend to indicate they are protected. How are you getting these files to burn? |

The CDs are identical - from the same spindle. Sony audio CDs.
I threw out the CDs already. This has been happening since I installed Nero 10. I don't burn that many CDs like this (using individual files), so I forgot about the problem. The problem always occurs during track 2, usually about 2 minutes into the track and then a few more times during the track. After that, the rest of the CD is *usually* OK. The last disc I burned for my wife wouldn't play past track 2 in her car. I bought the album on vinyl and ripped it to my computer. There is no copy protection. I created the files. The .wav files burn, the FLACs do not. Are you trying to insinuate that I obtained the files illegally? The problem here is that Nero (from what I've read online) no longer natively supports burning FLAC files to audio CDs. Why is this, and is there a plugin or some other fix available that will allow it? |

It is quite common in the forum for people who buy or download media to have problems with it in Nero. In many instances, copyright protection is the issue. Since Nero software doesn't work with copyright protected media, I always have to ask so that I (we) don't beat my head against the wall trying to fix a problem that can't be fixed in Nero. I don't know if technology has changed such that protection can be transferred with audio from a vinyl record.
V10 and v11 support .flac. However, regardless of what the format for the source files is, the files are always burned as PCM WAV on an audio cd, because that's part of the audio cd specification. It is quite possible you've found a problem that hasn't been noticed before. I found that one can't import .flac into v11 WaveEditor. In this case, I recommend that you send an e-mail to tech support. If you do, please let us know their response. I'll look tomorrow to see if I have any .flac files and, if I do, I'll try a burn myself. As I mentioned, I didn't see any errors in the log you provided. In case I don't have any .flac, could you upload one of your files to hotfile.com and post the first link here. Then I can try a burn using your file (added numerous times to the compilation). |

I sent an email to tech support.
They wanted to know step by step what I did while burning the CD. I've been burning CDs for years. 1000's of them. It's exactly the same procedure I've used since Nero 6. Never had a problem till I "upgraded" to Nero 10. They wanted a screenshot of the problem. Didn't send them one because there is no error displayed. It tells me the burn completed successfully. They had me download a utility that did a long scan of my system and generated a .cab file, which I uploaded to them. I'll let you know what they come up with. |

If you upload one of your files and I can use it to reproduce your problem, then it will add more fuel to the fire.

I burned an audio CD with v10 Burning Rom using three .flac files. The playback was perfect. I am kind of surprised because I thought two of them are protected and wouldn't burn. I did the same thing in v11. It still could be an issue with the discs or you might need to update the driver, or possibly, the firmware for your optical drive.

Try burning a disc with more than 3 tracks. The last one I tried had 12 tracks.

The only other thing I can think of is that maybe Nero doesn't like tagged FLAC files. The files I've been trying are tagged (metadata like artist, album, song title, cover art, etc).

tags shouldn't be a problem. If tagged, they might cause a little pause between tracks.
If I get time tomorrow, I'll try a bigger compilation. |

The things I do to help.
I burned a 12 track CD with the three .flac files I have. It played fine through the first three, intermittent checks of the following and a complete play of the last track. I'm assuming you just used the audio cd default options. The only other way I could help is to try one of your files, as suggested above. |

The problem seem to be tagged FLACs. I just burned a CD with untagged files and it burned properly. The problem would always be on track 2 only, starting around 2:00 - 2:15 and then intermittently to the end of the track. Sometimes it would skip to the end of the track and go to track 3.
Maybe it's Nero Burning ROM. This time I burned the CD from Nero SmartStart (which I normally never use). I clicked on Audio Burning under Quick Tasks and burned it that way. I didn't see anyway to set options, gap between tracks ,etc, but it seemed to work - gapless (which is good). I haven't tried burning tagged files this way yet. Guess that's the next step... |

Delete the Burning Rom log that you posted from your hdd. Then try burning the problem files from BR again. You could just do a small complilation since the problem seems to be always on Track 2. Then post the new log since I want to make sure that the problems in the old log aren't recurring.
Does the problem occur regardless of the order of burning the files? |

Use this file: http://www.filefactory.com/file/731dhffg6u...%281644%29.flac PM me for the password after you d/l it. Burn a CD with 12 copies of this track and let me know what you get. |

I have no way of sending you a message. In addition, even if I had a password, nothing asks me for one when I try to open the file. It appears this file is copyright protected. Nothing in Nero recognizes it.

You should be able to open the file in Nero BurningROM. It's just a FLAC file. Just create an audio CD and add it to the track list. There is no password (my mistake). It's not copyright protected. I created the file from a .wav file..
On a side note, why do I have to go to a different browser to send a reply here? This has got to be the worst forum software I've ever seen. I had to go to IE to send this reply. I normally use Firefox. For some reason, this forum won't let me reply to a post that I originated unless I go to a different browser. The first few times it worked. The last few, it hasn't. I also have to log in EVERY time, even tho I tell it to remember me. I couldn't attach a file in Firefox either. Had to do that from work. |

I normally use IE but I'm making this post from FireFox 3.6.13. Try deleting your browsing history.
I'll try your file sometime today. |

I burned a 12 track audio cd from v10 using the downloaded file. By default, It burned at 10x. I played track 2 in WMP and tracks 1 and 2 in KM. I sampled the other tracks and played the last one through in KM. It plays perfectly.
It would help to see the new burn log I requested. I think the other things I suggested you try are burn speed and optical drive driver\firmware. I think I also requested that you run a Create Disc check in Nero DiskSpeed. |
