In the last few days I have had several strange actions with my PC and the use of Nero.
I know that to remove either Nero 10 or 11 a USER has to use the ADD/REMOVE facility of the OS. As I had Nero 6 and Nero 9 installed on my PC I decided to use the General CleanTool (GCT) routine found by accessing one of the option found on the following web-page http://www.nero.com/eng/support.html#step%...3A%3Btrigger%3A. Executing GCT which apparently is only applicable for Nero 9, Nero 8, Nero 7 and Nero BackItUp4' The routine flagged that I had the latest version of Nero 9 installed in a CUSTOM installed location. I selected to remove this routine and watched the installed location as each routine was removed. Eventually it seemed to have finished, thus I selected to exit from the routine. I noticed that desktop icon for Nero 11 BACKUP had changed, but the remainder of the icons for Nero 11 had not altered. Selecting this desktop icon I was notified that the selection was only applicable for installed routines. Then I was notified that the system had to be RESTARTED to enable certain program to be completely removed. I believe I may have had a previous Nero BackItUp routine installed so I ran GCT again. This time it flagged the Nero 6 in its Custom installation. I then selected the REMOVAL of the routine flagged and again I was requested to RESTART my PC. On RESTART, the power up facility flagged that INCD had problems. Although this routine was part of Nero 6 but was removed, I believe, during the life cycle of Nero 9. The routine INCD (being the latest version) was installed in it own sub-folder of Nero. So is there a problem with GCT. Once this process was completed I now had a de-functional Nero 11 Suite installation so I then decided to remove NERO 11. Once this was completed I checked the sub-folders of Nero and found I had 2 folders present, one being TOOLS, the content of which was an INCD folder with log files for routine. The other folder was for Nero 11 which had several other sub-folders. One being for Nero BackItUp and contained a number of Sub-Folder and many other routines. Another for HELP with contained the various language Help files. The other folders were Nero Vision and NeroContent. The later folder seemed to be associated with the CREATIVE PACK routines and have an access date of the 15/3/2012, this being the date that Nero 11 was removed. As a User I am confused over the fact that I have following the recommended method, possibly exceeding it by using GCT for Nero 6, of removing NERO from my PC. Only to find that I still have routines available, even if that are non-functional. |

As you should know, neither the general clean tool nor the Windows uninstaller removes all folders and registry entries for a program. If the presence of the folders bothers you, just delete them.

Taking a leaf out of your book I checked the registry for reference to Nero applications, something I am reluctant to do, but the only reference seemed to be for Nero ShowTime. WRG to left over folders in this case was to do with the path taken of the upgrade that has occurred. Nero 10 with KM installed. When Nero 11 was released the path for KM was identical in both Nero 10 and Nero 11 so any upgrade to KM for Nero 11 subsequently effectively the uninstalled path, ( this is my assumption) so when the OS facility was used to remove Nero 10 the routines updated by the Nero 11 updates effected the list of files to be removed. But I will take your advice and DELETE them as I am sure that there can not be any path or reference to the in the registry although they are in the acceptable \Program Files\ path. |

The problem with the registry is that all items Nero related are not identified as Nero. I found that the Find feature in IE isn't 100%. You would have to search on each app and each class ID and program identifier. In addition, you have to search for Kwik media by itself since there is no Nero associated with it.

Thank for your reply. I must admit that I only searched the Registry for Nero. There was no KM folders concerned thus I did not trouble to search for this routine. But then as KM involves other Nero 10 or 11 routines then I suppose a search for them would have been worthwhile. Have taken you suggestion about just DELETING the folders, this has failed, as 'Access' to certain routine is DENIED, see attachment. My intension is to re-install Nero 11 so hopefully they will be overridden. But I would like to have a cleared Nero folder before attempting the installation. |

I think you should be able to reinstall with the Backitup folders in place. I don't usually cleanse my system of these folders if I have to do a reinstall.
I don't know what's causing the access problem. It could be that Backitup is still started with a system startup. You would have to run msconfig.exe and look under both the Services and Startup tabs and disable it. You might also have to go to C:\Documents and Settings (I think you have XP) and find the Backitp entries in the Users\Application Data (or APP Data)\Nero\Nero 11 path. |

Thanks wither.
You were right there is reference in the msconfig.exe for NBAGENT. Deselecting it and restating did not fix the deletion of the Nero Backup folder. But your comment about reinstall prompted me to proceed with an avenue I had not tried. Rather than use my saved Nero 11 download file to reinstall, mainly because it involved all of the application, I download and installed the TRAIL version of Nero 11 Backup. while doing a CUSTOM installation I observed the BACKUP folder and the routine was installed in the folder in question. Other expected routines like Nero Control Center, Nero HELP and Nero Recovery Agent were also installed in their respective folders. Once the installation was complete I then opened the CONTROL PANEL ADD/REMOVE and selected to REMOVE the Nero 11 BACKUP facility. While this was being processed, each of the folders for Nero Control Center, Nero HELP and Nero Recovery Agent were removed along with the BACKUP folder and the Nero 11 sub-folder THUS PROBLEM SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN SOLVED, ABOUT THE DELETION OF NERO 11 BACKUP FOLDER. BUT IT DOES RAISE A QUESTION AS TO WHY THE NERO 11 PROGRAM/ROUTINE WAS CORRUPTED BY THE GENERAL CLEANTOOLS FOR NERO 9 |
