Using Nero 9, I have a Soundtrax project (.npf) that uses several .wav files in the same folder as the .npf as well as subfloders. This project works fine. I now want to move the location of the “project folder” (the folder that contains the .npf and all the .wav files) to another directory of disk. When I attempt this and open the .npf file in Soundtrax I get this error for every .wav file referenced: “Unable to open the file which is referenced by the Nero SoundTrax project.”
This gives me the impression that .npf files using absolute file references. Is there a way to change these to relative file locations? Is there a way to edit the to file locations encoded in the .npf file? Any suggestions? |

Most Nero projects contain the paths to the files and not the files themselves. In Vision, they have given the option of browsing for a file if it gets moved. I don't know if they're going to change that for the other apps in v11.
Go into Options\Preferences and change the default C:\Users\Administrator\Music\ to the location of your files. Does that help. |

No, that solution did not work.
I agree with you. The .npf contains the paths to the files. The problem though is that it appears that the paths are absolute rather than being relative. |

Yeh, you're right. I didn't think about the file paths- that's dumb. :(
It looks like you'll have to insert the files again from the new location. I don't know if your edits will be applied. I don't have any .npf projects and don't want to go through the process to check this. |

Once I finish pressing OK for all of the error messages, “Unable to open the file which is referenced by the Nero SoundTrax project.”, I am left with a project that contains no audio files. It does contain the fading though so, yes, I could insert the files again from the new location, about 8 of them. However, with the type of multitrack mixing I am doing, a majority of the work is on lining up the timing of the audio files down to the millisecond. Inserting the files again from the new location gives me the link to the correct file but the timing is lost. I hope not to have to re-do a big chunk of the labor I have put into it.
I don’t like being stuck with my poor file organization decisions and want to be able to move these project files at will. |

It is what it is. As I said before, I don't know if they're going to fix this in v11 (coming out soon). You can always put the files back where they were to avoid having to redo all your work.
I recommend that you send an e-mail to tech support on this issue. Perhaps they have some tricks up their sleeves. If you do, let us know the response. |
