Still waiting for Support to reply.
Have sent all they requested inc Log file

They have recommended reinstall (which I have now done twice) (after downloaded the latest trial version and then installing the Nero Recode update,as I understand their was an issue with an autoupdate the end of last year.

Launched Nero Recode, try to drag and drop Camcorder AVI capture but the mouse pointer "unavailable" is displayed and it won't import. Then try to import file and the pop-up comes up as displayed in the attachment.
Have also tried various media files, but does import DVD structure.

Nero Recode 9 installed on my laptop works flawlessly, why or why did I upgrade, really miss Showtime as well.

Only real thing to try is a complete OS reinstall, which I loathe to do.

Anyone in the same boat? Any words of wisdom greatly received.

AVI container can have many different types of Video in it, depending on the recording/encoding tool.

Have a look to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_Video_Interleave .

Recode v11 has some interesting improvement of V9/V10, on the other hand with it you can't do some interesting things (adding/Editing Subtitles/Trim video,...).

A good new is that you can install v11 side by side with V9 (except for some app: e.g. BackItUp) . I you choose to install both, check for all the applications with T.S.

If you wish some more information about your video content, download Mediainfo from the web and run it against the .AVI file.

Let me know how it will go

Adriano

Is your purchased serial number shown in the Nero ControlCenter?

Have you received a request for patent activation?

As hg-dude recommended, download MediaInfo and open your file. Open View and Tree. Post a screenshot that shows the video and audio format.

I already had Mediainfo installed and I basically understand the concept of AVI.
Its nothing special just raw footage captured via firewire from a SONY DV Camcorder
As I said I already have v9 installed on my laptop which works fine. v11 on my desktop just doesn't work
All I want is a one click solution

Interestingly I can import the footage (and any other media file) into Nero Video fine and burns to DVD

Yep fully registered in Nero Control Centre.

I just object to Nero Support taking weeks to get a reply, if they ever do.

I looked in Nero Video and it shows that it supports DV and DVSD but doesn't mention DVCPRO. Can you import one of your files into Nero Video? If not, I think the message you got in Recode says it all. Is tech support aware of the video format? It's an old format so I'm surprised that Nero might not support it.

Since Recode and Nero Video are completely different programs, it's possible that they don't support the same codecs.

DVCPRO is proprietary but, if it opens in NV, then I don't think that's an iissue.

Why do you want to recode the file? What format would you like it to be in? You can export or burn in numerous formats in NV. I realize this doesn't fix the Recode problem but it's a possible workaround until we hear from tech support.

I have the same problem.
Try copy avi file to USB stick.
And import it from there.
I don't know why, but it works for me.

Now that gets me somewhere so must be a permissions security setting, if support would ever get back to me, as it has been 2 weeks without a reply perhaps they would be interested in this and assist.
Copying the file to a stick removes any properties regarding security/permissions.
Just need to figure out what

Many Thanks mm1999 for that advice, one step forward and all that.

UPDATE
In Fact works on any other drive bar the SYSTEM drive.

Since you haven't heard back from tech support for two weeks (seems to be pretty frequent these days), go to the chat line with your tech support ID number tomorrow and ask them the status. They're on GMT Berlin so timing is everything.

This is really strange. All the things I can think of that would make it not possible to import the file from your hard drive would prevent such a file from importing into NV also- permissions, sharing, anti-virus, Windows Firewall, Defender, etc.
