Hi

I have an Acer Aspire Laptop running Windows 7 Home premium 64-bit which has no CD/DVD Burning Software installed except the following items:
  • The inbuilt facilities provided by the Operating System.

Microsoft ISO Burn (which I believe is also included with the Windows Operating System).

Apple iTunes which I require to service my iPod.

Software to make AV Shows for PCs/DVDs called PicturesTo Exe and which includes a DVD Maker called VideoBuilder.
I recently purchased a download copy of Nero Multimedia Suite Version 10. After the installion I found that MediaHub failed to load. I opened each application within the suite and everythging else seems to work fine.

I did notice that during the installation it installed what was said to be additional necessary software which comprised of several additions to my DirectX Software and Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - X86 9.0.30729.4148. The Visual C++ item already existed on my machine but it installed another copy.

Can anyone suggest what might be the cause of this failure.

When you said it failed to load, I assume you mean you can't start it.

Try this- Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Nero\Nero 10\Nero MediaHub. Find NeroMediahub.exe. Right click on it and select Run as Administrator. Does that work?

When I first installed the software the Window opened but it then hung with my busy icon working. Subsequent to that it then failed to load - I just got the usual Windows 7 message asking if I wished to close the programme or search for a solution.

I haven't reloaded the software yet so I cannot try to run it as administrator. Surely this shouldn't be necessary as I am the sole user and with administrative privileges.

Microsoft did mysterious things in regards to administrative rights in both Vista and Win 7 to protect us from ourselves.

The failure of NMHub to start is discussed in the NMHub subforum with no resolution except to try things (and that's what I'm doing) see http://forum.my.nero.com/index.php?showtopic=8803.

If that doesn't work, you should send an e-mail to tech support since at least two other people have reported the problem. When you do, download and run the getsupportfiles utility from nero.com and attach the resulting nerosupport.cab file to your e-mail (don't post it here).

Hi

I have reinstalled the Software and still I cannot open MediaHub.

I then located the application and run it as administrator as you suggested and, as before, the window opens and freezes with an indicator showing that it is loading but that is as far as it goes.

The application window cannot then be closed unless I use Task Manager to stop the process running.

I had a look at that post but I don't have a problem with any of the apps other than MediaHub.

I also looked at the Visual C++ Redistributable software that was mentioned but the available downloads on the Microsoft Site seemed to be different versions to those that I have installed on my computer so I was reluctant to uninstall mine and install those from Microsoft for fear that other applications I have might fail to work.

I guess I shall have to get in touch with Nero and seek their advice.

I have same problem.

my system: windows xp sp3

When i launch Mediahub, i start, but immedaitely, i get a message saying that it will be closed due to an error.

Strange, as i can use-it as long as i di not ack the error message. I can even modify prefernce in it, the only strange thing is that my directory are not listed as usual in my prefernces, the list is empty, even if it select right directories in the main view of the program !

This is not a VC++2008 error as when i start xp using only MS services, it work well. It s a conflict with another service, with another program or a bad alocation.

I don't have any other problems with others software ! Only with the application mediahub from Nero !

Best regards.

Francis

Rather than waste your time, the best thing is to send an e-mail to tech support. Get the getsupportfiles utility at nero.com and run it. Attach the resulting nerosupport.cab to the e-mail.

Hi

I have sent an email to Nero Support with the cab file and a screen shot of the error message.

Hi Eric-G

Please let us know whether Nero Support are able to help you.

I have experienced the same problem with MediaHub. I have tried every suggestion from this forum without any luck. I sent the required files to Nero Support but was told that they are unable to help me.

I will report back either way but from your experience I am not holding my breath!!!

I am pleased to see that having purchased my upgrade as an online download it appears that I have a 14 day option to get a refund. As there was no indication on Nero's website that any of it wouldn't work I do feel I have been misled and may well exercise this option.

I think you should wait for tech support but I also believe you should go ahead and reinstall the redistributables. I've gone as far as installing the 2010 version and it hasn't caused any problems.

I compared the Redistributables before and after installing the Nero MultiMedia Suite and the only difference is that the C++ 2008 X86 item has the date changed to the date I installed Nero.

Furthermore I cannot find the relevant downloads on the Microsoft Site so mine might have come from the installation of other software I use.

I am not happy to do this as I don't have sufficient knowledge to sort out any problems should they occur.

In any case, when Nero tried to install the additional items, including the Redistributables, it ought to have "seen" that one of them was already present on my PC.

The idea is that the 2005 or 2008 may have become corrupted or not completely installed. It's more of a check but sometimes solves problems.

How did you compare them if you can't find the revelant downloads? To find one, just search on 2005 redistributable or 2008 redistributable in your browser.

I did search for them but the versions available did not seem to match what I had on my computer. I don't want to uninstall those I have to install other versions that might upset my other applications.

In any case, I have since received a response from Nero which suggested that the problem was with a file in .Net Framework 2.0. I did what they suggested but it made no difference to my problem and I am now waiting for a further response from them.

I would try the redistributable from here- http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/deta...;displaylang=en. It's for Win 7.

If you create a different admin account on your computer and log in, can you open NMH?

Hi

Thanks for the link. I reinstalled redistributable 2005 and tried to install 2008 - I got the option of either an uninstall or a repair so I chose the latter. This made no difference to my problem with MediaHub.

However, having set up a temporary additional User Account with Administrative Privileges I found that MediaHub now opens without hanging or crashing. As I am using a recently purchased laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium to replace my old XP machine I haven't yet had time to do much with my new version of Nero but it does seem as if this solves the problem.

Perhaps you could explain why this works and how I can get it to work using my own User Log-in.

In passing, I have to say that I quite like Windows 7 but I do think there are some aspects that are proving frustrating, particularly aspects relating to Security and Permissions. Is this where my problems lay?

I can't explain technically why it works or how to go back to the other account and make it work. I've been saying forever that the problem arises because of access/permissions but I'm not sure if that's correct because I don't know what files are shared or new instances of files are created when you have two different user accounts. It could be that the registry is different for two accounts but I'd have to rely on one of the experts to explain it. I'm going to ask tech support about it.

Thanks. I hope Tech Support can offer a cure as I am finding this problem very frustrating.

If it any help, the Laptop I am using was originally set up for my Partner to use but it was quickly passed on to me in favour of a Netbook. As a result I created a new (my current) User Account and then deleted hers. The Nero Suite was installed very recently and long after I had been using this laptop and my new User Account.

I also had a look at the security/permissions of my files using my own and the temporary User Accounts and there are no obvious differences between them with regard to any Nero applications or my Media Files.

I talked to tech support yesterday and the information is being passed on to the appropriate people today. In a sense, it's not really a Nero problem but they said they'd look into it. Their developers will probably have a much better idea about what things change when you set up a new user account. I don't think we'll be getting a response soon.
