Okay well start with i had ubuntu 10.10 on my machine dual boot with windows 7. I decided i did not want to use it anymore. I backed up my windows 7 data in nero after i deleted my ubuntu from my windows side and of course thats where i made a mistake. I forgot the mbr messes up when you dont change ot back to windows because i ended up rebooting and going to a grub rescue> screen. I deleted the whole drive and still no use it was still there. I managed to fix it running a mbrfix mbrfixtboot rbcbuild etc. I installed windows 7 again and before it did that it did a bigger chkdsk for every sector just a black screen and it managed to fix the drive. I tried restoring the drive but it shutdown during my attempt so i made another nero imagedisc thing. But now thinking if i do a drive restore it will bring back that boot menu record. Can i extract files from the backup and it set back up like a regular partition or does it jsut save to my hard drives as in a folder which is not a big deal because i can setup things back up manually i just want to mak sure i don't end up restoring and getting that boot menu again.

If you used Backitup in v10 or v11, you can restore individual files using the bootable disc. Look at Restore in the help file.

Dear roydo6,
what's possible and what's not depends on your backup and the version of BackItUp you use and so on. In general I suggest contacting Technical Support directly: http://www.nero.com/eng/support-form.html Best regards, GyroGearlooseMS. |
