How do you configure the new NKM so that you can only add folders manually, i see the two tabs that allow you to add automatically and manually, but it always seems to revert back to search for media files even though i don't want it to do so, and yes, i have checked off the Windows 7 folder box.

I need more details to understand what you're saying-

First, when you open KM, you should see "Add automatically" or "Open". There shouldn't be any occasion for it to search your entire system unless you click on the former. If you go to Options, Library, you should see "Add Automatically" and "Add Manually". The same as the above applies. I think they changed the wording so it is nearly perfectly clear what the results will be from clicking on one or the other.

I have no idea what the Win 7 folder option is.

By the way, if you want to skip the opening page, you can go into the Options\General and checkmark the box to open in the last used view and uncheck the other box.

@wither
actually i have no idea why it automatically scans all my media folders and i have tried those suggestions you recommended, and the Win 7 folder refers to the check box besides the "add Windows 7 folders automatically" which i assumed that once unchecked would solve the problem, but that did not seem to work either...and to be perfectly honest, i do not like the GUI on the new NKM at all, so i am going to install an older version and try to keep it from updating, let's see how that goes!

The problem with KM scanning the entire computer was fixed quickly in an update, based on requests from me and others. This was back when KM first came out around August (?) of last year.

Go into the Library and look to see if something like C: drive or D: drive, whatever you have, is listed. If so, remove it.

@wither

thanks, yes i reinstalled the newer version of NKM and it no longer scans my entire computer, it did during the original install but it seems fine now and i just add folders manually, and the one feature which i like is the ability to add specific subfolders which is a nice value-added feature
