Hello out there. My first time using this forum or any forum for that matter. So please forgive me if I don't get a few things correct the first couple times.
I am looking at creating a video with split screens. What I mean is a new video made up of two videos. I do some sports videos. I want to, for example, tape a baseball player from the side and from the front and show how they look in two different planes. Possible? Furthermore... expanding on the baseball theme. I would LOVE to add a stopwatch timer box showing how long it takes for a person to run from home plate to 1st base a single shot video. Possible? Heck go one step farther... add it into one of the newly created split screens? PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!!! lc |

If you're going to get that excited about it, I don't know if there's any reasoning with you. :)
The platinum edition has the Nero Picture in Picture (PIP) capability which I think does what you want in regards to two separate views. Note that what you see in the screenshot is just a quick and dirty to show you the possibiities. There are a lot of modifications that you can make to the view. The stop watch would have to be a video and, as you mentioned, it could be used in the PIP. |

Thanks. I think I just have the standard version. Came in a Red box, version 10. I am at work right now. I will check later. Yeah a little excited, but not in the sense of urgency. I have checked this website out looking for an answer. I guess I still don't know how to search effectively. BUT WOW!!! There is a ton of information out here. This is great people working together sharing how to do things. I just hope I can make a contribution someday.
Once again.. THANKS!!! |

You might not need Platinum to get the PIP based on what I can see at nero.com for the plain vanilla v11. All of my copies of v10 and v11 are Platinum. Platinum probably gives you more templates, etc. for PIP.

Unfortunately the PIP effects are not included in the normal N10 or N11 versions.
You need the Platinum version or the effect pack including it (e.g. "Creative Collection Pack"). Alternatively you can also add some more video tracks and create some kind of PIP by yourself. Of course, this means more work to do... ;) Best regards, GyroGearlooseMS. |

Thanks for the information on the PIP. I looked at v11 at Nero.com and came away with the impression that PIP was included in the standard version. :(
I'm not sure if overlaying the videos will give him what he wants. |

I think you'll be back if what GyroGearlooseMS said is true. |

ain't got it to work yet. havin' major trouble with files from new hard drive cam. when I bring them into Nero VIsion, they are large. i used to get about 6 volleyball games with my old vhs-c tapes into one dvd. now i am only getting 1 file to the DVD. Anyway I can compress these files?
OK back again. I think I found my problem with the file size. I mistakenly am creating a HiDef DVD and I don't want to. Anywhere y'all know I can change this without recreating the whole thing over again? This post has been edited by lcBrooks: Feb 20 2012, 05:28 PM |

One thing at a time.
Do you have the PIP feature? How did you get the VHS tapes into digital format? You can get a little over 2 hours on a standard DVD. If you want more, then you would go into the Recording Format Options and change the Quality setting from automatic to one of the other choices. The further down the list you go, the more you can add to the DVD. However, quality will suffer somewhat. |

Anywhere y'all know I can change this without recreating the whole thing over again? You can't change the project kind from HD to STD, you must restart. If you made much editing, the best to do is: export the video from Editing Video in DVD compatible format (Mpeg2). Create a DVD-Video project and import your Exported clip. Then prepare the menu (again) and go on.. Regards Adriano |

Thanks to all who have written. 1) To convert the VHS to digital, I use my recordable DVD player. I takes a long time, but its ok. I bought a new Panasonic camcorder with hard drive that takes 1/10 the time of VHS to download to the PC. 2) I haven't tried the PIP but my Box says I have it. I will use the help file and see if it is in there.
I will attempt the PIP in the coming days I hope. I just got back home from being called out to work. I kinda figure I would have to restart... shame too - a lot of time went into it. I am making screen shots and putting them in Word to remind me how I have the menus designed. I might try the export for the experience. AGAIN - MANY THANKS FOR THE COMMENTS. I ONLY HOPE I CAN RETURN THE FAVOR ONE DAY. This post has been edited by lcBrooks: Feb 21 2012, 02:59 AM |

IcBrooks- I'm not sure what you mean about creating high definition since I have no idea where you're starting in Nero Video.

I started the project with making a AVCHD. I presume this is HiDef. When I went back and opened some previous other files I did in Nero 7 it was just a plain DVD. Sorry, ignorant of the intracies. I hope this helps you help me. Sometimes I wish the programs came with a manual like they used to.
Tried to do a screen shot and show ya but it won't paste in here directly. |

Have you run the Check for Updates in the Nero Control Center? When v10 first came out, the help files weren't integrated into the various apps. That was changed in an update.
The only question here is "do you have PIP". You need to import a video and drag it to the timeline in the editing screen. If PIP is available, it will be enabled on the right side, just above the time scale. I assume you know how to get to the editing screen. If not, we'll be glad to help. |

Wither,
Thank you for taking an interest in my problem. I have hacked my way through Nero Vision (?) 3, 7, and now trying 10. BTW, I don't like 10 very much, vbut getting there. Yes, I know how to get to the editing screen. When I look at the timeline though I see several small icons to the right and upper-right. While I am typing this I am exporting the files as MPEG2, so I can't tell you exactly what i see, just what I recall. With your description of where it is.. I will try when I get home from work tomorrow. lc |

Then your only choice is to overlay the videos as mentioned by gyrogearloosems-
You can put one video on Video 1 and another on Video 2. You can change the opacity of the video on Video 2 to something like 50%, so that you can see both videos at the same time. Then, you can resize the video on Video 2 so that it's display is smaller than that on Video 1. It's not ideal. I did what I mentioned as shown in the attached. Of course, you can make further adjustments. |
