I have been trying for 2 days to burn some movies on a 50gb disc. I have had no problems in the past but for the last couple of days i keep getting an error that says NOT ENOUGH SPACE ON DISC. It is a blank 50gb disc which has plenty of room left on it even after the burned movies are on it. Please someone tell me what my error log says and help me with a solution. thanks

It says there's a medium error, among about 100 other errors with the drive.

First, make sure you run the Windows Disk Cleanup utility from Windows Accessories, System Tools and reboot. Then try a burn at 1x. Are you using a BD-RE disc?

I notice that some of the video you're trying to burn is recently released commercial video and is probably copy protected. If it is, either Nero or the firmware of the blu-ray optical drive will catch it and may cause all these errors.

This is a problem of the media:

woolvr:

Long before the KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR, there is the following and others:

[16:32:52] MMTools SourceBuilder2: c:\Program Files (x86)\Nero\Nero 11\NeroContent\Audio\movingwalls.nsla decoder is used

[16:32:52] MMTools {D457BFFE-DDD2-417E-872D-C9C9F80F43EA} -

[16:32:52] MMTools SourceBuilder: file type unknown - audio

[16:32:52] MMTools SourceBuilder: failed to build c:\Program Files (x86)\Nero\Nero

I don't know what it all means. But, have you tried writing to a hard disk folder? That may help.

Two possibilities:
a) The Manufacturer has changed.
Most brands are not manufacture the disc by themself - they buy the disc from oem manfactures.
Sometimes the manufactures are changed, while the brand is kept.

b) The Laser of the writer is power out, the lens is dirty of the justification is not so good anymore.
As the writer gets older, e.g. the justification of the optical unit can go worse. Also the lense can get dirty. And, last but not least, the laser diode has a limited lifetime - it does not suddenly stop to work, but it is loosing power - as each led. After a certain use time, the power may not be enough anymore to correctly write the media.
So: A writer has only a limited lifetime. If you already burned many discs, the end-of-life could be reached - so you could also try a new writer:
Hint: DVD and CD Burning is most time yet possible, as DVDs and CDs does not require so much power and such an exact focusing.

Was the burn to your hard drive successful? Does it play in the Nero blu-ray player?

I'm sorry, I saw the menu failure stuff and assumed you were in Nero Video. I asked that you write to a hard drive folder. Since the 'menu failures' are not there now, I suppose someone that can interpret those KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR messages is going to have to comment. I did notice that both of the new log files have, "This disc type cannot be closed" in them, whatever that means.

Have you tried writing to the image recorder? Have you tried jens-f's suggestions?

yes it plays through nero and alll other movie players i have installed. i just cant get them onto a blank blu disc so i can watch on my home theater. i went to the pioneer web site and updated both drives with the lastest firmware. so now i just ordered 2 of there most expensive blu writers to replace the ones i have. ill let you know next week if it works. i also ordered tdk blank blu discs instaead of the verbatum i have been using alll this time.

There are many posts about the KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR messages, but I'm not sure how specific they are about what actually went wrong. For the most part, the recommendations always involve trying new discs, cleaning the drive, etc. I did see a case on another site a few weeks ago that turned on a communications problem. Perhaps, jens-f or wither will have something more to say. Good luck.

The problem for me is that the logs are inconsistant in some areas. I asked about burning to the hard drive just to make sure the problem was in the burning process and not due to the media he's burning or something else.

I still think it's possible that 2x is too high, even though a burn failed at 1x. The other issue is that he's using RE discs and they can't be closed.
