In all fairness, tech support did say- "It 's limited to 1000 items at the import area at all." That could mean that, to import a 1000 slides, there should be no audio, video or slides in the import area.

wither:

Fairness?

As I said in my last posting, if the manuals/help are not going to say what the limits are then the error message certainly should. That would avoid all of this nonsense over nothing.

Then, as I said, the message is mis-leading as to what to do.

And, the fact that the limit is 1001, not 1000, is not nothing.

So, it took 3 weeks to have this trivial matter inaccurately addressed - something that I would think a cartoon character could manage in the blink of an eye!

I added my last post because I may not have accurately represented what tech support said.

I don't know where Air23 is. Tech support needs the additional information.

Even though this exercise with the slides doesn't help air23, here is the additional questions I asked tech support-

"The way I understand you, a person can import a 1000 files but he/she can't select all of them at one time and add them to the Timeline. You have to do that in smaller batches. Is this correct? The problem is that I and another person tried it in V9.4.44.0.b and we could import all 1000. In v11, the highest number that any of us can import is 969. In v10, one of the users said it would only import 989. Note that this exercise was originally only done to demonstration when the "system resources" error message came up. However, now it seems to be a different problem than what the person creating the thread experienced with a few videos.

I don't understand "misuse". Perhaps a translation issue. Hans-gerhard said there is a limit of 999 slides per title. Is that true?"

I got this response today-

"Yes it is correct. The intended workaround is to make it in smaller batches.

On the technical side it's limited for reserving and blocking internal memory resources which is not available for other operations. The amount of data would make a project very complex which can lead to errors which trouble we will not invite. And that is what I ment with misuse.

Yes the limit of 999 slides per title is true."

I think we've beaten this one up pretty well and should just let it go. If air23 ever comes back, he needs to send the requested information to tech support to directly address his problem. I have a suspiciion he's already done that.

Quoting tech support via wither's post above, TS in blue. My comments refer to Nero 11:

Yes it is correct. The intended workaround is to make it in smaller batches. If he is saying that you can import more than the 969 photos quoted above by doing it in several imports instead of a single import, that is false.

On the technical side it's limited for reserving and blocking internal memory resources which is not available for other operations. The amount of data would make a project very complex which can lead to errors which trouble we will not invite. And that is what I ment with misuse. Technically speaking, this is gibberish! It is not "misuse" to approach or exceed an arbitrary limit imposed by the software. IMHO, it is "user abuse" to allow the violation to result in a disaster and mislead the user into thinking they have committed some error or that their system resources are at fault, etc. Where are these limits documented? How does the user know they are being approached?

Yes the limit of 999 slides per title is true. This is false! Nero Video will accept 1000 photos on the timeline. Furthermore, a theme can be added.

Now, I don't know what ever happened to Air23, but since that issue is apparently dead, I see no problem is pursuing the issues I have discovered in trying to duplicate Air23's difficulties here and elsewhere.

Some outstanding issues:

1. Tech support is generally unresponsive. As noted above, when a response is made, ...

2. "Nero support" that is provided by cartoon characters is generally unhelpful. E.G., see topic

Maximum file size for burning to a Blu Ray disk (single sided!) Aug 2 2012, 08:42 AM

http://forum.my.nero.com/index.php?s=&showtopic=13290&view=findpost&p=70219

where Dudeness said:

Of course there is an indicator in Nero itself, but when I will be using my computer for over a day to create the file in the first place I would rather know where to "aim", rather than completing the process and then saying "Oops, just a little too big!".

Dudeness comments on Nero's lack of concern for their customer's time and gets a lesson in binary arithmetic!

3. Recognized issues are ignored by the developers. I have attached a test procedure to further amplify on a Nero Video problem I reported in January. I have taken it a step further to illustrate that it is not quite as benign as it first appears.

4. After being ignored by tech support, I have tried to generate a little interest in the forums without much luck. So, several days ago I posted three KM tests in topic Problem Installing PLatinum 11 Edition Aug 2 2012, 04:14 AM at

http://forum.my.nero.com/index.php?s=&...ost&p=70217.

Not a nibble! Not one single cartoon character has published the results of doing these trials. Not a single closeted Nero employee! For that matter, neither has anyone else.

I have also attached a Microsoft Word document containing "results" of my testing of the limits of Nero Video for those interested. In addition, I have posted a cropping of one of the images in that file. To make life interesting, try locating that little beauty and similar beauties in the Word document!

So, I have to ask again, how does a person go about getting the software errors fixed?

Edit on 20121024
: The Word document file can be found in the "Nero 12 Platinum" folder on my SkyDrive at

You know I saw the threads that no one responded to. I didn't have anything to add about them so I didn't respond. Most of those issues are up to tech support to resolve.

FlintheartGlomgoldCZ: Please let me know which of the many submissions I have made to tech support are considered bugs and which are considered features. I have been unable to get any status updates from them after many, many inquiries over the course of months. Ditto for the customer service department. As others have said on these forums, "The silence is deafening!" And, who, exactly, are you? And, as I asked the smurfs, "What is Nero Support?" Tech support, customer support, ...

I was also confused by the response from FlintHeart.... but didn't comment. These are not suggestions, they're problems. Hopefully, Flintheart... will answer your question.

An addendum to my August 4th post where I said that 1000 pictures can be added to the timeline in Nero Video. In support of that, I have made two such videos. One has slide durations of 1 second; the other is fast, having a slide duration of only 0.033 seconds per slide. It can be "viewed" at MyNero here:

http://ArmandLiberi.my.nero.com/blog/7517330 ( 0.033 seconds per slide )

Or, to download the 1000 slide videos, go to:

https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=4c028ef5ce7a...5CE7A1E35%21107

and find the following files in the public directory:

500ScreenshotsTwice, ~92 MB. ( 1 second per slide )

Fast500ScreenshotsTwice, ~9 MB.( 0.033 seconds per slide ).

Yet another addendum concerning limits. In an effort to eliminate multiple gaps in the timeline, I ran into multiple problems. One example is included here:

One of several trials with similar or worse outcomes using only 900 oictures. The same steps do not necessarily produce the same results

1. Start Nero Video

2. Select Make Movie or Slide Show

3. Movie Options: NTSC, TV Standard, Stereo

4. Choose "Advanced Editing

5. Import 900 pictures

6. Select the 900 pictures and drag them to Video 1

7. Click on the clock and change the duration of all slides to 00:00:10

8. Go to the Arranging Screen by clicking on the double '^' on the left half way up the screen

9. Select the 2nd through the last slide, Scroll back to the top.

10. Left click on the first selected slide and hold the button down while dragging the slide toward the first slide. As you approach the first slide, a vertical bar will appear. Release the mouse button and wait. Soon, a dialog will appear (maybe) informing you that "Not enough system resources are available to perform this action" and that you should "reduce the complexity of your project ..."

11. Close the dialog.

12. Click on the arrow at the lower right to "Undo the last action." Wait again. Soon, another dialog will appear saying that Nero Video has experienced a serious problem and must close immediately.

13. Click "Don't Save." Seconds later, a "needs to close" dialog appears.

14. Click "Send Error Report" and then "Close" after the report is sent.

This trial used Nero 11 Video running on Windows XP Professional, SP3.

Note: The above procedure to eliminate the gaps is from adriano at:

http://forum.my.nero.com/index.php?s=&...ost&p=66081

To try this, feel free to download my test pictures, "1000NumberedScreenshots.zip" in the public folder at my SkyDrive:

The message says clear what has happened. Explaination see #70463.

As this problem is system specific it makes no sense reproducing on another system.

hg-dude:

My last post continues a fairly extensive series of tests that I have done with regard to so-called "system resources" as a result of attempting to duplicate/simplify the original problem posted by Air23 who has apparently ridden off into the sunset. During this process, I have stumbled across numerous strange behaviors. I thought I had no more to say about the so-called limited system resources. Then, I was trying out Adriano's method for deleting the timeline gaps left when the slide durations are reduced. The excitement began again!

I only posted the original "Not enough ..." dialog, but if you read the steps, there was much more to it. In fact, the results are somewhat random and not very pleasing at all. This makes it difficult to "Simply Enjoy! The whole exercise reminded me of the apparently non-repeatable Recode issues I reported months ago.

Now, you seem to be saying that this particular issue has something to do with high resolution photos, etc. To see that size doesn't matter in this case, perform similar experiments using my "1000GIFs" available on my SkyDrive. Those files are low resolution and a mere 4 KB each. The "1000NumberedScreenshots" I used for the last post are from 25 to 48 KB each. As you can see from the attachment to my last post, they have large numbers that I made since I intended to play in the "Arranging Screen." Being able to see the slide number is convenient.

So, if you experiment with these files for a while, I am sure that you will be convinced that the so-called system resources that are not sufficient are in fact Nero application data structures that are not being properly managed. In other words, program bugs. (What Adriano found would be a feature!).

I am not quite sure what to make of your statement: "As this problem is system specific it makes no sense reproducing on another system." These issues are Nero system specific and, as such, are reproducible on other computer systems?

Now, it appears that the 1000 picture limit is only the beginning. In any case, the constant "needs to close" and other disastrous consequences are totally avoidable, not to mention extremely irritating!.

I only attached one screenshot yesterday because I am running out of space on the web site.

Finally, I am always quite confused when you attribute problems to Nero's management of its VM if that's what you are saying. As far as I know, VM exists so that application programs do not have to be concerned with actual memory or the paging files sometimes used to augment the physical memory. The mappings of each application's VM to physical memory and subsequent possible page file interaction are managed by hardware tables and the OS. Perhaps, I have not understood what it is that you are attempting to get across.

Sorry, no further comments to this thread as your issues have nothing to do with the problem of Air23. I have no time for discussing.

The problem experienced by air23 was resolved. I can't discuss the cause of the problem.
