LG/ Nero problems

I'm new to Media Home: have some problems and after hours trying different ideas, I'm now stuck! What I've noticed is that many issues (including mine) involve an LG Plasma (could be coincidence?)

As I've received zero help from LG, I've mailed Nero Support - full mail below. I'm posting this in the forum as it may be of use for others who get stuck on this sort of issue in the future

I'll keep you posted on Nero's response - although if anyone has suggestions meanwhile they'll be gratefully received :)

I'm having problems with running Nero Home Media - I've tried the trial and now I'm using the MediaHome 4 Essentials which came bundled with the TV - the issues are the same - it's incredibly slow and 'glitchy'.

I use Vista Business 32mb and BT Infinity Broadband (modem & router) - downloading at around 38 mbs and uploading at 1.8.

The Infinity Router is hardwired to the TV - LG PK590 and also from router to the amp -which is an Onkyo TX- NR708. Opt cable from TV to amp.

Being hardwired, I expected everything to be fast and solid!

However - here's what's happening...

(In my 'Shares' I have Wedding photos 105mb; Compilation music (m4a) at 132mb and folder of 2 music tracks at just 7mb.)

With the server, TV and amp running...click menu/my media/music...TV says 'loading' - Music List comes up after 44 seconds - (also shows Photos?)

(The folder '100 90s Hits' shows empty - but is it that as this contains m4a tracks it will only be read if I upgrade?)

After 30 seconds of inactivity, the screen goes blue & I have to load everything again from menu/my media/music - is this right? (This also happens when the 'loading' message is on screen for a while).

This time I go to the file that contains just 2 Aretha Franklin tracks in mp3 format. Click the file; wait 36 seconds for it to show the name of the album; click it and wait 63 seconds to show the 2 tracks; click on the first and wait 17 seconds for it to begin playing.

If I stop the track and go back to the folder list and click to show the photos (105mb) it takes 2mins 09 secs and then says 'empty folder'

It seems the folders are frequently empty - do I have to rescan every time I use the programme?

I've tried so many different ways to get to the bottom of this (and the LG tech don't want to know!) that I'm now stuck.

maybe transcoding? I set everything to default/auto and dont have too many issues other than random new videos wont play until i run them through handbrake

Thanks - I'm running the bundled Essentials version at the moment - so no transcoding feature. I'm happy to upgrade as soon as I get things working.

Unfortunately, I'm still waiting for Nero Support to respond - been 8 days now ( seems an incredibly long wait for any tech support these days?!) - so I'm quickly losing interest in Nero!

Update: Nero Tech sent me a "GetSupportFiles.zip" which I used and sent back a couple of days ago - now waiting for their comments.

Hi Terry, I sympathize with you, I'm also new to Media Home 4 essentials, it came bundled with my new LG 47 LM640 TV, however,after installing Nero Media Home 4 Essentials on my PC (Windows XP) it worked fine. I was able to stream everything OK, but, I have encountered a problem,the TV can't find the link to the PC.I really don't think that the TV is at fault, having checked that it's connected to the network OK. When I uninstall and reinstall Nero it works fine, I have installed all Nero updates but this problem still persists and even crashes the PC on occasion. There seems to be a conflict within the Nero software I have even thought of looking for another program to link PC to TV. Would be interested to hear of their comments indeed.

Hi mazda1- given the age of this thread and the fact that most people don't come back to the forum unless they encounter another problem, I doubt he'll respond.

I'm not sure how you updated NMH. Did you use 4.5.8?

Perhaps people do not come back to the FORUM as they have not resolved the situation and are trying to work around their problem.

From my experience LG seem to pass the buck with some excuse that the product is not supported and even if they do they have no knowledge of the BUNDLED software. Usually they refer you to the RETAILER for support, at least that is my opinion/experience.

Just for interest LG, Hitachi and Nero are some sort of partners. LG and Hitachi are associated by HLDS ( Hitachi-LG-Data Service). I believe it was this company which developed some Secure Disc features for DVD drives and Nero introduced software to utilise this facility.

I do not know what the interaction between the recent releases of Nero Suite and Nero Media Home 4 or whether it is a STANDALONE program but obviously there must be some as it is still available on http://www.nero.com/enu/products/nero-medi...MediaHome-trial. The version being 4.5.8 as quoted by wither.

As Nero Media Home 4 was introduced during the lifespan of Nero 9 with an update during that time, possibly for Nero 10 release. I would not expect Nero to consider the GST file as being important.
