2 Issues:
Sorry, I'm not much of a tech person, so forgive me if I don't phrase this question correctly technologically...When I finish my creating videos with Nero Video 11, and play them back, they don't up use the full video screen size. There is always a large black border around a relatively small central video area. What am I doing wrong when saving or creating these videos that they playback so small? In the "Effect Palette" area there is a tab for "Backgrounds". If I scroll down I see solid colors. I can't figure out how to use these background colors. For example, how do I add static text over one of these colored backgrounds? If I drag a background color, and then drag the Static Text option into the timeline, it only recognizes the color and not the text at all. Hope this makes sense. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, |

Hello newtothis,
1. Which resolution did you choose when you try to make movie or slide show? please make sure that the resolution setting is the one you want, you can define the setting in the movie options window. 2. Just simply drug the solid color background you want to the timeline area, for example, you drug the background to "Video 1" line, in order to see the static text, please drug the text to "Video 2" line then the text is visiable on the background. For more detailed information, please refer to the manual with the link: http://www.nero.com/eng/support-nero11-manuals.html Best regards, PoetSmurfTY |

There is always a large black border around a relatively small central video area. What am I doing wrong when saving or creating these videos that they playback so small? This can have to main reasons: 1. You created a project with a higher resolution than the imported video has. For example: opened project with 1920x1080 <-> imported video 720x480. In this case you have to click once on the video in the preview screen. A white border with small squares in the edges will appear around the video. Click on one of the squares and drag it until the video fills the preview screen. 2. Your video has a different aspect ratio than your project. Two cases are possible: 2.1 You are creating a project with a 4:3 aspect ratio, your video is 16:9 with a 4:3 video encoded into it. (See my post and the picture here for better understanding!) 2.2 You are creating a project with a 16:9 aspect ratio, your video is 4:3 with a 16:9 video encoded into it. (See my post and the picture here!) With Nero Video, you can zoom in the video like in 1. So that your video will be full screen. ZITAT In the "Effect Palette" area there is a tab for "Backgrounds". If I scroll down I see solid colors. I can't figure out how to use these background colors. For example, how do I add static text over one of these colored backgrounds? If I drag a background color, and then drag the Static Text option into the timeline, it only recognizes the color and not the text at all. Hope this makes sense. PoetSmurfTY already answered that. |

These black bars on all (!) sides point to a wrong initialization of the project aspect ratio, means to 4:3. Correction lateron (in the "Movie Options) can lead to unpredicted results. The best is to create the project new with the correct settings in the Recording Format Options (under "More"), which should be "Automatic" for "Aspect Ratio".
As the initiation of the project aspect ratio depends on the aspect ratio of the first import resp. of its resolution, - both defined by the file type and the media type you are creating -, which seems to be DVD-Video in your case. The there used format (MPEG-2) is based on the resolution of 720x480 (NTSC) resp. 720x576 (PAL), which supports both aspect ratio 16:9 and 4:3. So before you open a project for editing a slide show or video which you have created under "Create Video or Slideshow", check the aspect ratio in the Recording Format Options of DVD-Video at first, it should be "Automatic". If you have mixed aspect ratio in the project the first imported object should always be that with 16:9. The Movie Options should be as shown below and in the preview window the picture should be correct fitted, means close to top and bottom borders of the display area. |

PoetSmurfTY's suggestion: '2. Just simply drug the solid color background you want to the timeline area, for example, you drug the background to "Video 1" line, in order to see the static text, please drug the text to "Video 2" line then the text is visiable on the background"" refers to "Advanced Mode" editing. If you are in "Express Mode," you will find three labels to the left, "Text," "Video/Picture," and "Audio." Drag the text to the box above your background in line with the text label. |

Thanks very much to all who responded. LOVE this forum. Questions are always answered so quickly!
1) - Background issue was easily resolved once I understood to drag the background to the "Video 1" timeline instead of the "Video 2" timeline. 2) - The screen size issue was easily resolved once I switched the resolution from "TV Widescreen" to "TV Standard". Thanks, thanks, and thanks again! |
