i have been purchasing nero for years, 6,7, 8, 9, and now 10. apart from playing a few videos and home photos my main purpose has been my hope that i could copy my extensive collection of cds [ and also previously vinyl and tape] mainly classical and jazz, onto dvd or now bluray. i still have my old LP's and tapes , now largely useless, and i fear losing my cd collection in a fire or other misadventure. i don't have the space to accomodate copying each cd but could if i could copy to DVDs or even better bluray. i got a bluray recorder with my latest computer and nero 10 but i am afraid the technology and the manuals still defeat me and i can't work out how i can copy several cds to a dvd which i can then play on my hi fidelity music system , not just on my computer. i suppose if i had grandchildren around they would laugh at me and do it in 20 minutes. perhaps nero is too high tech and there is some simpler software that would do the job. but if anyone can give me clear instructions on how to do this i would be most grateful.

i can't work out how i can copy several cds to a dvd which i can then play on my hi fidelity music system , not just on my computer. This is not a problem of nero - this a problem of your "hi fidelity music system" - or better: A Problem of missing standard. There is no real common standard for what you want. Some players supports data-dvds with music files. What formats does your "hi fidelity music system" support? This post has been edited by jens-f: Jan 26 2012, 03:34 PM |

I assume, that he archived his vinyls and tapes to the standard CD-Audio format (*.cda/*.wav). Most stand alone DVD- and bluray-players only accept WAV (uncompressed CD-audio) or MP3 on DVDs. So, if you want to store music on your DVD, make sure you rip it to mp3 before. That means ripping you standard Audio-CD.
You can do that by using Nero Burning ROM. Start the software and press "Cancel" in the "New Compilation" window. Now click on "Extras" -> "Save tracks". In the opening window go to the "Output"-tab. Under "Format" choose "MP3 (*.mp3)" at "File format" and to achieve the highest possible quality "mp3 320 kbps" under "Quality". If you want a balance of quality and space, you can choose "mp3 192 kbps" (which is nearly CD quality). Now go back to the other tab and name your titles of that compilation. (You can do that by clicking the "Edit"-button.) After that, press the "Copy" button to store your files on your hard drive. From there you can burn them for example with Nero Express. There you should select "Music" -> "Jukebox Audio-DVD" (or bluray). Now drag & drop all the mp3-files to the Express window until the DVD is full, burn the disc and enjoy it on your hifi-system. |

Thanks Mister_M, I was typing at the same time as you were and lost my post.
One thing he has to consider is that, if the cds are commercial and copy protected, he won't be able to burn them. He would have to give it a try. I'm wondering why he can't just use Express and add the files from the cd's directly into it. Express supports 7 or 8 different audio formats. I didn't test it. As I understand it, his LPs and cassettes are not on cd. In that case, I would recommend that he use the SoundTrax wizards for transferring the LPs and cassettes to his hard drive. He would need to look at the help file for the hardware and software requirements. In some instances, Nero isn't needed for LPs. I have a turntable with a UsB connection that I can either use with SoundTrax or the accompanying software to transfer the audio to the hard drive. I don't know if I would need a sound card. I also saw a $50 turntable at Kmart the other day that transfers LPs directly to disc but I think it was cd. Of course, he could do that and then use one of the options we're discussing. The other issue he would need to consider is that a Jukebox disc might not play on all players. I would recommend creating one and testing it on the players he anticipates using. |

Hi,
most important is what jens-f said, that there is no standard like for Audio-CDs which fits to DVD and especially Blu-ray disc. So you may rip your Audio-CDs to files and then create Data-Discs which are most likely playable on common Blu-ray players or similar devices. The benefit of a Data-Disc is also, that it is capable of containing more tracks than a normal "Audio-CD", as the size of the files and not there duration is important. For example, current Audio-CDs can have around 20 tracks on it. Data-Discs can have hundreds of songs on the disc. Of course, the benefit of Audio-CDs is still that it can be played on most players. A Data-Disc cannot... Hope this helps. Best regards, GyroGearlooseMS. |

Hi,
I tried to find the correct manual of your Marantz player and if I got the correct one, it can play MP3 and WMA files. Note, it seems that it is not able to play Blu-ray discs, what most likely comes from the fact that it is not a current product of Marantz. :/ So though you can create Blu-ray discs using your computer, you won't be able to play them in your Marantz player. What you can do is that you can use Nero Burning ROM to create MP3 files out of your Audio-CDs first, e.g. via "Extras" > "Save Tracks". If you already have some files, then you can use the "Encode files" option to get every file into the same format. Afterwards, simply create a Data disc, either a CD or DVD, and put all the MP3 files into this compilation and burn it to disc. This disc should be playable in your Marantz player then. Best regards, GyroGearlooseMS. |
