Good evening,

I have an interesting issue. I back up my media from a 6.5Tb array onto 2x 3Tb HDs using 2 separate backup jobs in BackItUp. I have them separated by TV shows on one HD and everything else on the other HD. (Joys of being stationed overseas.)

While performing an initial incremental of the TV shows (about 60% done) my 17-month old got a hold of the keyboard and tried to put the computer into hibernate. Not only did this hose my array (thanks Winblows) by removing 2 random drives, it hosed the BackItUp that was in process. I was able to rebuild the array and get all the other data back with restore minus the TV shows.

Is there any way to recover the data that was in the process of being backed up before Babysaurus Rex ate my computer? I have about 1TB of data on that drive in .nba files, but there is nothing else on the drive that would show a possible recovery route and BackItUp 10 just tells me to give the proper location of the back up or put the last disk in.. or just "Please make sure you select the correct folder."

Thanks in advance,

J

Hi Trog1odyte

Try opening the backup files with 7-Zip, and extract in temp folder, I assume you have free space.
I did this test with BackItUp 11, (I hope it goes for V10 too)
1- I backed up one Video File of 7.6 GB and it's results in 4 .NBA Files
2- Using 7-Zip I opened every one .NBA and extracted the files in a Temp folder - The result is 4 .m2ts files, the first one has a correct thumbnail, the others a generic thumb (see screenshot)
3 I tried playing them (just few seconds each, so if this go well do a full test of the restored files, before wasting too much time). I can play the first one in WMP and Nero Kwik Media, The others with Nero Kwik Media, but not in WMP (Unsupported file or codec).

The problem arises when a files is splitted in two archives (I don't know how to join the restored files).

Hope this can help you to recover something. Good luck!

Maybe T.S. can give you some more help: try to call them at Live Chat in working hours GMT.

Regards
Adriano
