I seem to have a problem involving missing (or unregistered) Nero codecs. For about the last 5 months I have been unable to use Nero Showtime to play or Nero Vision to edit certain files that I have converted from .tivo to .mpg files. The problem is that the sound plays correctly, but the video screen remains black. This happened about the time I installed Adobe Photoshop Elements, which has its own video renderer. I am able to view and edit the files on a different computer using Nero 7 under Windows XP, but not on my Windows 7 64-bit rig with Nero 9.
Inspecting the Nero 7 (under Windows XP ) set-up with TiVo Desktop Codec Manager and codectweaktool.exe, I find that there are numerous codecs installed under c:\Program files\common files\ahead\. I can't seem to find these at all under the Program Files(x86) folder of Windows 7. I had in the past uninstalled Nero 9, used the Nero Cleaner tool, then reinstalled from the original disc, lastly updating to the most current update. I would think that this would installed the proper codecs, but it does not appear to have done so. I would appreciate any help in this matter you can give me. ? Should I simply attempt to reinstall Nero on top of itself?? ? Should I completely reinstall and attempt to start all over from scratch, using the original discs?? ? Should I try a different method of adding and registering the missing codecs?? Thanks in advance for your help. Bill Zigrang This post has been edited by Metabolism: Dec 24 2010, 11:42 PM |

I responded to this in your other thread on the same subject.
