Can't burn CD-R

Hi guys, I tried to burn my first MP3 CD with Nero which failed, and yielded the following log:

Can anyone understand/interpret all this code and tell me what went wrong please? I'm gutted!

I'll give it a try. I want to explore a couple of areas.

1. Is the 8001.... your purchased serial number? Where does the XX06..... number come from? (note, don't post your serial number here).

2. You're getting a media error. The burn speed seems to be reasonable but try one at 16x.

If that doesn't work, try a different disc. If still no luck, go to nero.com, downloads, nero free tools and download Nero DiskSpeed. Run the Benchmark and Create Disc tests on one of the discs. Do you get any errors?

If not, I suggest you try a different batch of discs.

I'm assuming that none of the mp3's are protected.

I can not be sure but I believe the 8001 may be the ser nio for the 15 day Nero 11 Trail period program

WRT to the XX06 had something to do with Nero 10. It possible might have something to do with downloading the ADD-ON for Kwik Media producing serial number for the routines

Both of theses were found in the REGISTRY when I recent did a search, because I had problems with my Nero 10/11 programs

Hi, thank you for taking the time to offer advice. I don't know about the 8001 or the XX06, but I think as suggested the 8001 is likely to do with the 15 day trial.

I ran the DiscSpeed tests and the Benchmark test was fine, but the Create Disc test gave WRITE ERROR 030C00.

This is the second batch of discs, I think perhaps the problem is with my laptop's writer.

Try wiping the entire disc with a cloth to remove dust,smudges or fingerprints. I believe the media error is totally related to the discs since that's where the ATIP is located and it says there's invalid data in it. The information in the ATIP controls how the burn is performed (linear velocity, etc.).

You could also try cleaning your drive with one of those cleaning cds.

I am indeed using the trial version of Nero, but have full version of other burning software which was equally ineffective. I got the Nero trial because I used it back in the day and it was the best in my opinion.

I have tried cheap discs and branded discs and had no success with either. The discs are brand new, straight out the pack and into the drive with TLC. I have tried inspecting and wiping them with a soft cloth, but still no luck. I will obtain a lens cleaner disc over the weekend and let you know if I have any joy. It is a bit of a conundrum why the cd writer won't write!

I asked about the trial due to the limitations on using certain video formats. However, you're burning audio. I don't think there is any limitations on mp3 inthe trial, unless, as I said earlier, the files are protected.

Since you had the same problem with other software, it could be the cleanliness issue or protection. Let us know how it turns out.

Disc burned successfully using Windows Media player on slowest burn speed setting. Got to 99% and then a message came up saying it had failed, but I tried playing the disc and it had burned successfully. I have no idea what in the name of Sam that is all about, but at least it burned. Thank you for your help and advice guys. Could it just be that my burner is like an old jalopy - it'll get you there at 30mph but if you step on the gas, the doors fall off? :P

I recommended that you try one at 16x but don't recall that you tried it. that recommendation still stands as does the recommendation to clean your drive.

Go to nero.com, downloads, nero free tools. Download Nero DiscSpeed. Run the Benchmark test on one of your discs and note what the average write speed is. Run the Create Disc test and note if there are any errors.
