Ok here's the deal. I installed Nero 9 without a problem in Vista Home Premium Edition 64 bit. I also have an ATI Theater 650 Pro installed in my system, and had been quite anxious to use "Nero Live". My first attempts rewarded me with an error message that said "no TV tuner card can be found", which led me on a 2 hour long quest to figure out what was going on, because the ATI card was indeed installed. Eventually, I adjusted the Nero software compatibility to "run as administrator" and with a smile Nero identified my ATI TV tuner capture card.

My next step was to follow the Nero TV setup wizard, (I have condensed the process) the wizard detected my ATI card as a hybrid allowing for both analog and digital video streams - because it is a hybrid Nero recognizes it as 2 seperate video cards. The choices are 1. ATI AVstream Analog Capture 2.ATI BDA digital tuner. I select option 2. ATI BDA digital tuner and proceed to the next step, I was then asked to select the video source; the choices are: cable, antenna or unknown - I select cable (direct coaxial cable feed to my ATI card). The next step is where Nero Live scans for the available channels (a lengthy process), and unfortunately no channels were found. At this point I began to select alternatives to see if it would indeed find any channels - and now on day 2 since first installing Nero 9 I am unable to watch TV via Nero Live (please refer to screenshots). Oddly enough, Vista Media Center Edition had nary a problem functioning quite well with my card.

This is indeed challenging and annoying. As with anything software related, there is always someone who has the technical ability and time to work out these issues; unfortunately I have neither. If I pay money for something based upon the options and features that sold me - I just want it to work. Now in the world of software my last statement is most likely a very naive one, but I think fair and not a lot to ask. In my experience this is what will happen. Nero AG will begin to get a number of complaints and begin working to patch the software (of course Nero AG could already be aware of problems and working on patches), and I have no doubt that these issues will be fixed. What is disappointing is that I will have to wait, at the mercy of whatever time it takes to release the patch to the general public. In all honesty I don't want to wait, I want it to work now - in the same time frame that it took Nero to transact a $65.00 payment from my PayPal account - instantly.

For those of you who read this post, trust me although this sounds like a rant, it isn't. I am not even upset, I'm just disappointed. I'm disappointed that for years I have been a Nero customer and for the most part been happy, and now I'm a little older and hopefully a little wiser, and somebody who doesn't want to fight with my computer. So I feel confident that my statement is fact; at least in my case. I just want Nero 9 to work as advertised, no registry modification, no administrator setting, no compatiblity setting, no operating system reinstallation, no uninstall Nero 9 and reinstall. I just want it to work. I am still sold on the newer features and I like Nero software so I am willing to give it time to see if this is resolved. That said, if anyone out there has experienced this problem and resolved it fairly painlessly - might you pass your knowledge this way? Thanks.

I have been googling quite a lot of information regarding Nero 9 trying to find someone with similar issues and if they managed to correct them. Then I ran across this article http://www.manifest-tech.com/blog/2008/10/...t_and_trans.php , at Manifest Tech and the last paragraph of the article is what caught my attention.

It appears that there is a problem with the installer for Nero 9, regardless of downloaded software or the CD (the author points only to the CD, but with the slow install time I experienced via download - I am suggesting issues with that as well). According to the article the author suggests that Nero is aware of the problem and is busily trying to develop a patch to resolve the issues. Many thanks.

I guess I will wait a while to see what develops, evidently because of the installer issues it takes an inordinate amount of time to install the software (in my case about 30+ minutes). Due to the installer problems many of the applications fail to "integrate" or "register" with the operating system causing an application launch failure. In my case an inability to use Nero Live and the Nero Sidebar Gadgets do not function. I have not used all of the various features in Nero 9 yet, so I am concerned that there may be more problems then the ones that I am aware of.

All in all, I still have great interest in anyone who has Nero 9 installed that has had problems - and what you did to resolve them. I have had no response as of yet, either due to a very limited amount of Nero 9 users, or no one is suffering my exact issues, or this is a problem that can only be corrected when Nero releases a fix. Thanks in advance to anyone willing, or had considered possibly tackling my problem.

I quite agree that it takes ages for Nero 9 to install. As for Nero Live, I'm just disappointed. I have a AverMedia A16a/A16R PCI Hybrid dvb-T (Analog & Terrestrial) installed. Nero Live recognizes the card but I don't get any picture or sound! Here's the message I get: "YOUR TUNER IS CURRENTLY BLOCKED EITHER DUE TO A RECORDING OR A RUNNING PIP WINDOW..." oF COURSE, NONE OF THE ABOVE IS TRUE. I forgot to mention that scanning finds ALL the analog & digital channels! The same applies to my Sky Star HD satellite card. Scanning OK, picture and sound blocked.... I have a Sapphire Radeon !650 Pro installed, and my OS's are XP Pro and Vista Home Premium.
I'd appreciate if other people having similar problems with Nero 9 Live posted here and urged NERO to patch /solve these problems.
Thanks!

you are not alone, I installed nero 9 & I am having nothing but problems. I have no sound on some channels & it only found 5 channels of which was mostly only duplicates. In media centre I found to be all corrupted & my leadtek tuner card software was only scanning 1 channel. I had no option but to restore vista from an image file.

I did find a nero live link incorporated in media centre not sure if that was right or not. The only reason I updated to nero 9 was due to not being able to find a downlaod link for nero 7 premium after a fresh install of vista.
I am not putting it back until its fixed.

Thanks plumgas and geoptin for moving this thread a little further. I am assuming that there would be a Nero link within Media Center, because earlier versions of Nero integrated a link within MCE as well. Unfortunately, I show no link at all. Admittedly, I feel a little jealousy that both of your installs at least found channels - mine did not.

I have uninstalled Nero 9 from my Vista operating system and quite agree that it is best to wait until Nero patches edition 9. I do consider myself lucky that the end result of the install was not a corruption of my operating system, and in my opinion plumgas, Nero should issue you a formal apology. It is simply the very worst thing that an application can do to someone's computer. Logic would dictate that the developers made available a product that was not yet ready for prime time (no pun intended).

I will check these postings daily, as well as Nero's upgrade/patch pages to see if someone or something comes along with the fix that will reaffirm my confidence in this software. As I said before I'm not angry - just very disappointed. And again, if anyone out there has the magic bullet, I think all of us would lend you an ear.

I have troubles with Nero live as well.

The program recognises my card but locks up when scanning for channels - the progress bar never moves and the cancel and back buttons do nothing. The only way out is to end task. I have a Medion MT503 running Vista, it has a creatix card which works fine with DVBViewer. As yet support have not helped.

Very dissapointing.

Exactly the same for me using a Medion 8828 & Vista, the Creatix card works fine with media player but channel scan during Nero Live initialisation wizard just locks up. I tried reporting the problem to 'support' but just got the standard auto reply asking for the same info I had already provided. The recent 9.0.9.4.c update to the Nero 9 software hasn't fixed the problem for me, either...

My PC is actually a Medion 8393. The installer for 9.0.9.4.c shows install error every 2 minutes or so.

After installing the update I stopped the install of nero live, I must say the first version installed with no problems but with this new update the windows installer error comes up every few minutes. I think its because nero installation is so slow vista thinks it has stopped responding.

I cannot clear the nero live link from media centre. Tried to delete entries in the registry relating to nero from media centre but the link still stays. Even my registry mechanic does not remove it.

Hello all,

I have been reading some of the posts regarding the new Nero 9.0.9.4.c update - and wow, there are a lot of upset people out there. I had completely uninstalled the first Nero 9 release due to multiple issues with Nero Live. I had even gone so far as to send a ticket to the support team for help and yes; they did respond. In a nutshell they gave me the usual uninstall and reinstall tutorial, but they also suggested that my ATI Theater 650 Capture/TV tuner card may not yet be compatible (Nero 9 does recognize the card). However, they are diligently working to bring more compatibility to other tuner cards. The technical support staff then offered me a link to the website which should offer a listing of current compatible TV tuner/capture cards. I followed the link and there must be a problem, because there is no listing of tuner cards!?

I then went about the task of installing the new 9.0.9.4.c update. I shut down Vista UAC, and using msconfig I shut down all programs other than critical vista components and began the installation. I think that if the windows installer had the ability to curse aloud via my PC speakers it would have used words not yet conceived of. It absolutely put my installer through Hell! Installation had finally completed after having to reinitiate to the installer every 2-3% of the progress bar. Of course this is a sure sign that nothing will work as it should in the actual Nero application, so I set about the lengthy task of uninstalling the Nero update - and again the installer continued to fail (please see screenshot).

Again, after a lengthy manual removal of all things Nero from my system - I am at a loss. I can't recall a time where I have suffered such an absolute failure of a software product for my PC, especially from a software manufacturer with the history and popularity that Nero has. I had read somewhere in the Nero forums another update is due in November. It will be my 3rd and last installation of this software - if it does not work, after years of loyalty to Nero, I am going to have to look to a competitor to provide me with (hopefully) reliable functionality. This is an outright shame.

Okay, I get the Windows Installer error also. I just cancel it and then Nero goes back to installing. As for Nero Live, I cannot get anything going wither. I have the Hauppauge 2250 dual tuner hybrid card and it works fine in analog for Vista MC, BeyondTV, SageTV, and WinTV. It does not work at all in Nero Live. As for the digital portion of the card, I am sure it works okay, it is just that my cable company is all messed up (Cox Phoenix).

I have even replaced my OS with a new image so there would not be any conflict with an old TV card or Nero 8. Still all the same problems exist.

I suspect we are in the trappings of being a beta testing group and we have all paid for the honor.

I wonder if anyone at all has had LiveTV working and if so, what card was used?

Sal

Same problem with Windows Installer crashing. Also, Nero Live is unable to locate channels on my tuner card. A complete waste of time and $65.

Hopefully, an updated and functional Nero 9 will be available soon.

I downloaded Nero 9 and burned the installer to a CD. Running the installer took an amazingly long time for a file less than 600MB in size. I see now that is not unusual by the other forum comments here. This is on XP SP3 and it did finish on its own, eventually.

I tested Nero Live straight away and it started, and identified my Leadtek DVB card straight away. Scanning for channels took way too long. The winfast PVR software that came with the card found all channels in about 20 seconds, or less. Live took maybe 10 minutes. Then it wanted to scan for EPG data, and did the whole process again!!
I was worried when It asked what country I was in and not what City as well, unlike the Winfast software. When I tried to use it I was getting sound but no video, and some channels were obviously corrupt because it said the antennae was unplugged?!

So I gave up and started the Winfast software but it failed to find the card now. OK, Nero has overwritten something it shouldn't have and broken it, so Tried Live again and this time it just crashes and I get the microsoft window asking to log the error and look for a solution. As the Winfast software should work fine I've given up on Live. A reinstall of Winfast drivers and software and that works OK again.

I'm quite impressed with the Commercial detection feature of Nero Vision. It takes a while but processing an MPEG file from Winfast PVR correctly identified segments to remove. Now I just need to work out how to get Vision to export the show as Xvid (or DivX) with MP3 sound and I'll be happy enough.

The lack of technical documentation is annoying.
-Where is the channel data kept and how do I edit it?
-Where/how can I get MP3 as an option in the file export? MP3 Pro is supposedly included in Nero9 but not an option here?

I'm new to Nero 9 - what a debacle!!
Apart from the extraordinary long installation time, not much seems to work.
One of the problems I have is the same as many of you ie. "YOUR TUNER IS CURRENTLY BLOCKED ...." (DVIco tuner).
I've spent many hours uninstalling DVIco/reinstalling Nero etc etc to no avail.
I find it amazing that a company can blatantly advertise the features in a such a product, some of which just don't work (for quite a few people it seems).
This is an extremely amateurish effort and I won't be buying any of their products in the future, but I will spend time telling others of my experience.
Good luck to those who persevere (with the alpha testing!).

Same thing for me with an ASUSTek Tiger-S Hybrid Capture Device (My Cinema-P7131 Hybrid) - this even with last update; NERO 9 version 9.2.6.0 - Nero Live version = 1.2.6.0
